Now what's she going to want? - -
Had a call from daughter this evening, she's been on a drifting play day, started off with smaller stuff but this afternoon she's apparently been drifting a 450hp Skyline and she's thoroughly enjoyed herself.

It's ok for you lot, she'll now bitten by the power bug big time, how do i play this one?

What we need here is a

for her to play in.

Very practical as well.

Wouldn't mind that meself Z if the colour wasn't so loud, 80 litre LPG tank would fit nicely in the boot.

Its a cracker init, can you believe its 11 years old?

That's a very nice Omega!

As a concerned Dad who wants things done right, it can only be an Alpina B5 S.
The Holden VXR did spring to mind but...the Alpina just does it right.

Cor blimey you lot are a bad influence, as usual.

I want to divert her away from these admittedly desirable cars, not get her in one...there happens to be a Holden Commodore in a proper colour only 10 miles away from me on the Trader...;), SWM fancies going to have a look.

''Its a cracker init, can you believe its 11 years old?''

Lovely paintwork, not sure about the shorts the geezer beside the photgrapher's wearing though..;)

You could buy her a season ticket and a decent helmet to the local kart track and until she can drift a kart like a Skyline then she has to stay with the Honda...

There's time to get your own back gb. My daughter is only 5 and my youngest son (3), who is the real worry; daft as a brush already, have the Nürburgring as a playground in their backyard.

Luckily she's not likely to just go and buy anything without my inspecting it so lots of room for dismissive tactics, but you just never know with females, impetuous and lots of trouble the flippin lot of them.

Toyota Supra surely, cheap, powerful, reliable and RWD. Job done.

:-p

if you can find a goodun now, yeah.

What's that Stu? Prius?, yes i agree everything a girl could want.

You're another one of me supposed online mates who is of no help, i'm trying to deflect her next car thoughts as and when the phone rings...;)

I can see her already, busily surfing the Pistonheads and various other haunts tomorrow for ideas.

Ok compromise - Mazda MX5, bit of fun, but not too much, better?
Now what's she going to want? - -
That's better Stu, perfect car for her...and she hates them...too girly apparently.

To be fair to her, she's so impressed with the Honda type S that she will probably punt for a type R when the time comes, i hope the pleasures of RWD play hasn't influenced her too much.

Haha, send her retro with a MK1 Escort Mexico, she can then get to know a Haynes manual :-)

On the Honda front, S2000 surely, lovely motor.

If the young lady is bitten by the drifting bug an account with the local tyre man might be useful.

Just because hairdressers like MX5s doesn't mean it's a bad car. RWD with a proper twin cam engine and more than enough bhp per ton for the road. It's been said it's what the small British sports car should have been.

But I would say that ;-)

Seriously, cost aside I wondered whether I would like an S2000. I didn't drive one, though a colleague had one for a while - you do need to make them buzz, and they rev to 9,000 IIRC.

If it's also an everyday driver, reasonable economy will presumably matter. Seat Leon 2.0 TSI FR?
Now what's she going to want? - -
2 seater's no good for her, well they haven't been so far as she likes to be able to take her mates, her chap has a 4 seater though so that could change.

Good point about tyres Navy, i'm keeping me fingers crossed this drifting lark is just something she'll pay and play once in a while, but she's always been into the Japanese performance car scene so prepared for anything.

Honda S2000 to my eyes is just about the best looking traditional modern sports cars there is, proving typically Honda in quality too, i'd like one as a late mid life crisis motor.

The MX5 has lost its hairdresser image in my mind, the one my wife has is a Sportech 2.0 litre one - it's a proper pocket sports car...

Missed the edit.

Just been nosing around, there's a good selection of reasonably priced S2000's out there with sensible mileages.
Her high mileage would make that a sensible desirable choice if she wants to try a 2 seater, probably only a little heavier on fuel than her 2 litre VTEC Civic, and should prove just as durable.

As an aside, following my recent maintenance of her current Civic, i'm very impressed by the build quality and thought that's gone into maintaining the Honda's i've seen.

My lad has a 05 (i think) Diesel CRV which i haven't done a thing too as he wants to maintain Honda SH, that's proving a very well made trouble free vehicle too.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, food for thought indeed, though i'll pass on the Escort Mexico thanks..;)

edit, i agree with the MX5 being a fine car, especially in steel hood form in the right colour.

If something (slightly) more practical is needed a BMW 130i hatchback starts at £6,995 on Autotrader for a '55 plate!!

BMW 1 series ticks all the boxes and in a small package, i'll definately keep that in mind.

Don't overlook the E46 330i either. Becoming very good value now, and many reckon it's a better car than the E90. 231 bhp with a widely reported 30+ mpg in realistic daily driving too.

There's a very pretty, fully loaded SE manual on a 54 plate on Autotrader with 60k, FSH and 10 months ticket for £5795.

Indeed DP, i believe the E46 coupe is a seriously good looking car as well as a quality vehicle in all aspects, excellent potential for LPG which given her mileage would make sense if we could get one of the low mileage well cared for examples at a fair price.

A lady family member moved up from a compact to a E46 coupe, both 320d's, she found it considerably larger and didn't keep it long, must be a lot heavier too is it was noticeably heavier on fuel, felt more substantial on the road though from the seat of my pants..

Good cars GB, but if you're concerned about her safety, have a look at the NCAP rating for the E46, specifically the driver rating. However, I've a feeling that since she's been trying her hand at drifting, she's not going to give a fig about the above. Anyway, it's better to burn out than fade away :)

Being a girl she'll do whatever she wants.;)

Maybe i should but i don't take too much notice of crash ratings only using them as a guide, the types of real world accident are not the same.
Best accident prevention is the person behind the wheel.
