A satnav does not have common sense, neither do many drivers.
Bit of an iffy (sorry Iffy) story, it must have been reversed in there, the mirrors are intact.

I think one of the pictures shows the mirrors folded, and that's mentioned in a couple of the captions.

Worth repeating one of the comments that vehicle is a large van rather than an HGV - perhaps Pat can confirm?
EDIT: ie. it was a van driver wot did it, not a lorry driver

It looks like a 3.5 tonner which can be either, depending on the payload and whether your a reporter or not:)
Not a lot to defend there, but if he had could have reversed back UP the slope it would never have happened.
I have some sympathy in as much as he's got down there (look on Google maps), without doing any damage and then found that he couldn't turn OUT of the road without the overhang hetting the wall.
There but for the grace of God go so many of us, when we're lost and no matter how much travelled we are, we do still get lost!
I would have gone hungry though instead of braving the pub:)
