Its hardly the same thing is it! You wont find a ATL-98 Carvair for example! And that road is shut where the coaches got stuck.

{plane pedant} The Silver City machine is a Bristol Freighter. The Carvair came later{/plane pedant}

There might still be one or two Carvairs active in N. America or SA and possibly a Bristo in the antipodes.

Air Atlantique flew a Bristol commercially until the late eighies. Got into trouble with the guide for not listemning & watching it bunble over during a trip to the Festiniog pumped storage scheme. A preserved example, possibly the same machine, was written off in the mid nineties after its engines surged on take off.

Very unlikely either type will grace UK skies again.

The machine at LE Touquet (G AJTC) is probably a miles aerovan but that needs checking out.

EDIT beat me. The g info website confirms it as a MILES M57 AEROVAN 4.

Vintage British bikes can fetch serious money now.

A Brough Superior SS100 made £166,500 a few years ago.

That might need some Man Maths.

A lovely sound sound. I know the whole route of the video and the pub car park it ends in having visited the pub over many years. Real ale (gravity feed ) and they used to have a trout pond to choose your catch.

Interesting isn't close! Utterly fascinating does it for me, as a rider of a 1957 Matchless G12. A terrific record of a great journey - thanks for sharing.

The quality of the photos are stunning. I love the story at the end of one of the participants riding his son's bike at the age of 70 and mistaking the MPH speedo for a KPH one and clocking 160mph on the local by-pass !

Easy Rider has just started on Sky.

All they've done so far is snort drugs.

Thought it was supposed to be about motorcycling.

Just forwarded the link to my dad. He'll be as fascinated as I am.

Although he was still in short trousers when these pics were taken!

A wonderful archive...wish I'd been there.
I've biked a fair few of those places in the last ten years, including Konstanz, Kufstein and the Grossglockner.

They have doors on the summit tunnel now to stop the snow blowing through and filling it up. I think the VW Beetle is a rare Hebmuller cabriolet. I transported one once to Penkridge in Staffordshire for a guy to restore. I wonder if he ever finished it.

If you're going Pug...give me a call !

Love the pictures. It makes you realise how homogeneous europe has now become.
The pictures of the unguarded drops took me back to Austria and gravel surfaces on mountain passes in the 60s. Probably scare the pfd out of me today!

You on your Bantam combination would struggle to keep up with that lot on their 12 grand super-tourers. :)

This was one hell of an adventure - it's risky enough 60 years on with state of the art bikes, sophisticated bike gear and 24/7 remote assistance...

Never thought of that Iffers, old chap.

Might have to use the LE Velocette, then.

Still looking for a back wheel for the Batnam...I'd have to use it as a unicycle.

The LE would see the pants of the Kwacker...I use superunleaded !

Go here www.bonhams.com/eur/home/

Click on "Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Show" on the LHS and look at lots 357 to 360.

Plenty of other fine bikes and bits and pieces too if someone wants a day out this Sunday.

i went to the national motorcycle museum in birmingham last sunday, £8.95 well spent, 5 halls chocca block with britains finest, its a shame they lost several hundred machines in the fire back in 2003 tho...but still a fine collection on show

No wonder it went viral. Wonderful. SWMBO once crossed by Channel Air Bridge - I wish I'd done something like that.
The car approaching in the early-on pic of the Austrian border post is a Ford Taunus 12. I'd never seen one but, by coincidence, there's a feature on them in this month's 'Gazoline' mag over here.
