Saw a Mini in the sixties that was covered completely in penny and halfpenny coins, polished, sunk in some sort of enamel and lacquered over. It looked good but sat a bit low on its suspension, as all that copper probably weighed a fair amount.

The cane-seat finish preferred by some, harking back to people's special 1920s town cars, wouldn't have weighed much but might have cost more if genuine... most weren't, just a sort of basketwork transfer.
