I wondered how long it would be before the Police realised they could see right into a car from their lorry cabs.

One of the police cars/cops programmes showed west mids police with a lorry driven by Angus Nairn.

I think its a good idea - Its amazing how much more I see just from the slightly raised position in my landcruiser, just as I used to from my motorbike.

Most offenders are car drivers, but the worst I saw was the driver of an LGV reading a novel at the wheel. I'd been watching his lack of lane discipline as I approached so knew something was up.

They've been using them for couple of years now on all the major motorways to keep an eye on lorries but this is the first time cars have been targetted too.

That's why I thought I should let you know!

Cheers Pat. A push bike in slow traffic provides an equally good vantage point. Would be particularly suited to enforcing mobile usage and laptops/notebooks on seats.

Thanks Pat I be very very carefull not to do silly things in the car>:)

Assuming the car has a roof then the field of vision inside the car will be limited by the height of the window, regardless of the viewing height. The higher the viewing point, the less of the driver's head will be visible but the more of, er, lower down. If the policeman were on top of a double decker bus he would see only the driver's feet and his right hand pocket.
Or if he were in a go-cart he would see the driver's ears but not his hands.

You had to think about that didn't you Cliff.?

Coppers in a go-cart, what next on roller scates trying to catch us out..:)

I assure you CP, that from the height of a truck cab there's very little happening in a passing car that can't be viewed.

What if you got the dark tinted windows can look out but not in.Just wondered.

That's why tints have to be of a certain opacity (is that the word?) to windows in front and beside the driver, black limo style tints should only be behind the driver...seeing some of the blacked out gangsta cars round cities the rules seem to be widely ignored,

I can vouch for that GB, some of the things I've seen have made me blush:)

Oh yes, well worth a good extended glance to be sure...:-)

Years ago I took part in a community protest which involved handing leaflets to drivers stuck in a traffic jam in London.

I recall one drop-dead gorgeous woman in a mini skirt who had, between her legs...an open packet of Jaffa Cakes.

I'm sure any drop-dead gorgeous woman could find something better..........

Ho Ho. I can confirm that my old BMW R1200GS (probably the tallest bike in the business) was king for seeing into cars - saw some surprising things as you sort of bimbled past in an overtaking lane, including a guy driving with no trousers - I'm sure there must have been a reason.

Agreed, although maybe not for the journey home from work.

The insurance claim form would make for interesting reading.

The only thing I do that is a bit naughty is sip from a bottle of coca-cola when I am at lights. Only do it when I know I will be stuck there for a long time though.

It works the other way too.

One hot day I was sitting in my car at traffic lights when a young lady wearing a cut-down tee shirt pulled up alongside on a push-bike. I could see the sky up through the inside!

Indeed, has to be in an instant ban if you get caught doing that :)

Not a laughing matter if you already have points....
Drinking anything whilst at the wheel can be regarded as careless driving.

Even at lights though? I've heard stories like this before, but the CPS through it out. I've seen people smoking at the wheel etc.

I only ever do it at lights when I know I am going to be stopped for a couple of minutes.

Just seen the sun glasses one? Surely that is a joke? I don't know anybody that does this in sunny weather. Sun visors do the job perfectly.

You don't know anyone who wears sunglasses for driving when it's sunny? Seriously?

I've just got two sets of glasses. One with tinted glass for driving in sunny weather.

Relaxing to drive.

Nope, but then it doesn't really get sunny very often here anymore :(. I can't wear them anyway, I would be blind with them on.

That is why they are selling us cars with panoramic roofs! Soon that is all that will be available.

Where is my tin foil hat!?
