Just need a little rant:-
This afternoon promised to take a friend for a meal as I forgot her Birthday, picked her up in Cheadle and then drove to Bramhall for a meal. The road was 30 and she just kept telling me there is nothing in front so drive faster, I pointed out that unlike her, I don't make the habit of collecting points or existing the car with my wheels on the roof and the engine on the floor.
Then tonight took my mum to a large Tesco just on the edge of Stockport, collecting my sister on the way. My mother tells me to slow down when I approach a corner at about 22mph in a 30 and also says I am accelerating too fast, well yes when I am crossing the A34 I am not going to dwindle!
So I am either going to slow or too fast, women you can't win.
Rant over.

Well said Rats - dwindle ye not.

It's actually essential to drive small Italian cars as if you are determined to get the valves out through the head. It's what they're designed for.
|
True, don't get me wrong at lights I am often doing 30 before I have cleared the junction and in still in 2nd gear! It is a very 'nippy' car. I always accelerate quickly, but in this case she was just moaning that I should be doing 40 because everybody does it....

Im off to Italy for a few days shortly and have reserved a small car. I had a Fiesta last time but the trip prior to that I got a Panda. I'm actually rather hoping that's what I get this time. Good fun little cars. Once before I had a wee Lancia something which was a bit a of a lark to drive. They still do them there. It was exactly the same colour as a Digestive biscuit.
|
Nice little car Humph.
When my daughter is with me she always tells me to slowdown.
Typical continental driver..<:)
You're in charge Rattle!
|
Those Lancias are coming to the UK soon badged as a Chrysler, What Car didn't seem impressed gutless and involving they said.
The big 5000 is coming tomorrow, so shall I write a full review of my 18 months old Panda ownership then.
|
Ok, so your're leaning on the bar at the Chablix and Faux Grass authentic French wine and lager bar in Salford. What would you rather say to your mates you've just bought to replace the Panda? A Chrysler... or a Lancia eh?
Not hard is it.
:-)
|
I really don't know why it is called a Chrysler
www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/chrysler-lancia-ypsilon-review-paul-horrell-2011-05-26
I know Lancia had a bad reputation in the UK, but at least it also had a sporty reputation.
Of course FIAT now own Chrysler, so they are keen just to apply the Chrysler bade onto FIAT designs to lower the emissions of the Chrysler range.
PS I don't drink in bars in Salford, I have far too much class for that :).

When I (very occasionally) give the ex wife a lift somewhere she always complains in 'you took that corner a bit fast' idiom. The kids just tell me she isn't used to it like they are.
Mind you, it does sometime feel faster from the passenger seat. Certainly felt that way when my brother gave me lift in his Saab 900 convertible.
|
Unless my passengers get whiplash, all complaints put on a postcard, I dont pay much attention although I dont get complaints either, they are well trained.
Re the Chysler-Lancia, I saw one of those new Chysler Delta jobbies the other day in that oh-so 'now' white - it is frankly stunning, makes the Honda Civic look a bit tame and has some very distinctive DRLs. It looks pretty cool in pictures but in the flesh my jaw hit the floor.
Given Americans cant style cars, I can well see why they would badge engineer Italian style, makes sense.
|
Americans can't style cars, eh? I think Raymond Leowy, Virgil Exner and Harley Earl would beg to differ.

Chrysler Corporation. Possibly the only car manufacturer with the guts to put concept cars into production.

So that car linked to is in production?
VAG seem to put a lot of concept cars into production with few changes.
|
Not sure, but on past form I wouldn't be surprised. The Dodge Viper, Plymouth Prowler and PT Cruiser all started off as concepts. Not everyones cup of tea but certainly different. I just like different :)
|

What have any of them done recently?

Exactly. I see that Kia style some nice looking cars. But not surprising with Peter Schreyer in charge of design.

>>I see that Kia style some nice looking cars. But not surprising with Peter Schreyer in charge of design<<
Isn't he the geezer who 'designed' the Kia Soul.
:)
|
Nothing Stu, but they designed some beautiful cars between them. A few of their creations would certainly feature in my garage if I ever won the lottery.
:)
|
Then I stand by what I said. Americans can design retro, no doubt, but sophisticated, in 2011, if it happens its rare and almost certainly by accident.
So got an American car designer who was even alive in the last 25 years...?

I walk past a Chrysler Delta every day.
IMHO it is SO ugly I have to look the other way.
|
Just stop, get out, and ask if the passenger would rather drive or get a taxi.
You don't have to put up with that sort of thing. It's like wandering into the cockpit and criticising the pilot.

That Lancia corporate front end is a complete disaster. Ugly does not even cover it. Such a pity, for a company that designed some of the best looking cars of the 50's, 60's 70's, 80's are early 90's they have since taken ugly badly proportion cars to new extremes.
Probably why no-one buys the things.
|
Just remind any moaning passengers that 'second class ride better than first class walk'.
|
Not always. Whilst I am no back seat driver I have actually asked a driver who I considered dangerously reckless to let me out and I made my own way home. There are times when something need to be said. Giving someone a lift doesn't mean you have the right to take risks with their life.

It was meant in relation to Rattie's usual passenger's who seem to be sometimes unappreciative regulars, and whilst presumably grateful for sparing their legs it apparently hasn't stopped their tongues wagging critcism.
If i dislike someone's driving that much, like you i'd bale out, and wouldn't get in again.
|
"It was meant in relation to Rattie's usual passenger's who seem to be sometimes unappreciative regulars,"
Appreciate that. Was just pointing out that sometimes the boot is on the other foot. I usually have the capacity to ignore back street drivers but it can get tedious after a while
|
To be honest, from what I can tell on this forum, I would chuck Rattle out and drive it myself.
|
Rattle, if that's the same girl who never has her Clio serviced, I'd rather be driven by you than her any day!
|
You would never get there quickly, he would be too busy stopping to check his levels, along with a panic attack when he sees smoke coming out the back of it.
|
Stu, I don't think you can really call me paranoid :). Half the car dealers in North Hampshire have probably black listed you :)..
|
It is all in the name of humour :) - Hopefully.
|
>>Stu, I don't think you can really call me paranoid :). Half the car dealers in North Hampshire have probably black listed you :)..<<
North Hampshire? Never bought a car there thats for sure. Geography not a strong point then chap, Im suprised you find your way across town :-) Residents of Northampton would Im sure be most curious to find out their town had gone 100+ miles south...
As for the dealers, they make their money and the only one I had trouble with is still trying to flog my misses a new Swift, not that shes interested nice tho they are.
Im not paranoid, Im careful, cautious perhaps, but Im not as highly strung on the panic pills as your good self. My wife on the other hand... she kicked the table by accident the other day, I thought someone had shot her such was the commotion :-p
|
I am from the North, there is no life south of Macclesfield :). I know where Northampton is, don't know why I said North Hampshire, just didn't think, the south south is not my strongest point.
And I have not been on any panic tablets since the chavs drove away in my old Corsa and gave me £250 smackers :).
|
I tend to get a headache if I go north of Nottingham.
Northampton aint in the South, its East Midlands bone brain :-p
Actually Rats, your paranoid episodes remind me so much of my wifes reaction to all things that require little stressing, I do rather wonder if your her long lost sister... if it makes you feel any better, Im even more mean to my wife about it :-)
|
I know its East Midlands, although I have always thought of it as being more like North South East, because to me the East Midlands is Derbyshire and Nottingham etc.
To be fair apart from todays oil issue, not really had any reason to worry about the Panda, and has done a world of good to my blood pressure. I do suffer from anxiety though, hence not wanting to drive too far.
|
>> I do suffer from anxiety though, hence not wanting to drive too far.<<
So did my wife, so I sent her on a 240 mile round trip to her parents on her own - set the sat nav and told her to go steady. She is over it now, its about time you did tbh, you have a modern, reliable car.
|
Same person, btw the Clio had its 70,000 mile service a few months back, all the problems where just caused by worn spark plugs. To be fair, her accident levels have gone down, and she does do 20k a year.
By 70,000 miles, I mean it hasn't been serviced for 70,000 miles! Its on about 105-110k now I think. It gets oil changed about every 25k though. I am just amazed it always passes the MOT with nothing but pads and tyres required.

So it's serviced at 110k or 70k? I am confused.

So it sort of gets an interim service every 25k miles then. So it's sort of serviced.

Yeah think its had three oil changes in her ownership. The cam belt was done when it was 20,000 miles over due, so she really does push her luck with it. Great little cars those Clios.
The mileage is on about 105k now, but she did 70,000 miles in it without getting it serviced, all she did in that time was replace pads and do an oil change. Its never had a proper service e.g replacing coolant or brake fluid.

Mrs B does not make a good passenger. She simply does not trust me, or the car. It's very frustraing when I'm safely 'making progress' on a road that I have driven countless times and Mrs B is going for her imaginary brake pedal, or saying 'that was a little fast, wasn't it?'. It's especially frustrating as she has been a passenger with me along this road many times before so she should know the score by now!
Her particular bete noir is motorways. When I'm planning an overtake, I'll check what's coming up behind me and ease off (or not) until I know that I can just slot into the next lane safely. Mrs B goes for her imaginary brake pedal, or braces herself for impact, convinced that I am about to plough into the car in front.
I really wouldn't mind this too much if she were a good driver herself but she isn't. She's awful. But, I resepct that when she is driving she is in charge so, by and large, I keep quiet. Takes quite some effort sometimes, mark you.
|
I like passengers to mind their own bussiness when I'm driving. If I need help I will ask.
My wife hasn't got a driving licence she used to have a moped .On a long run she usually nods off. When she's awake she likes to listen to rock music which can annoy me sometimes she turns the sound up I keep turning the sound down..;)
|
Wish I had a wife that liked to listen to Rock Music :).

True be carefull what you wish for.>:) Rattle women are very expensive they usually outlast most men.I better make her a cup of tea to keep the peace.
