Motorcycle licence - The Melting Snowman
My missus took her motorcycle test three years ago (she got in before the test changed) but against my advice she took the test on a scooter. So although she has a full bike licence, she is restricted to automatics.

Now of course she fancies riding a geared bike...

I assume she will need to put 'L' plates back on and be restricted to a 125cc - which means we will have to go and buy one as my bike is well over 125cc...

I was thinking (often dangerous with me) that if she takes her test on a geared bike and fails it, does that invalidate her restricted scooter licence?

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Does she fancy taking her test again or would an automatic bike with gears work ?

Honda VFR 1200 FD has a dual clutch auto gearbox. Kind of a VW DSG on two wheels.

No not really, it's a lot of money and hassle taking another test. I hadn't thought of a DSG-type bike. Certainly worth investigating - thanks for the idea.

It is expensive - she won't have to do the CBT and possibly not the theory. Once she passes her test she can still ride her auto scooter - suggest she phones her nearest training school, it's a complex area.

Yes that's a good idea. I will phone them in the morning. Thanks.

Let us know, I'd be interested to know.

The licence she already has will not be invalidated if she fails her test on a manual.
