If you have bought once of these, can you comment on it pleased? I am shaping up for a test drive.

Give the new Rio a go for me while you're at it, HJ has a video road test of it, and he says yes!

I sat in, and had a good poke around a new Rio a few days ago. I will probably downsize when the Ceed has done its five year stint with me. I am thinking Fiesta at the moment , more choice of models and engines. The Rio also came second to the Fiesta in this weeks Auto Express group test. Maybe if they put a 1.6 diesel in the Rio.........

What, like a "not" estate? Phew, gosh...

:-(

The time is approaching for role reversal with the kids. Our lifting and shifting requirements have reduced to the point where I think they may be able to manage them, but I will miss the estate car. Mind you there is a nice Volvo V50 2.0 TD for sale nearby, :-)

They have just started providing Christmas dinner for us, not bad as they are in their forties.

FWIW there's a similar query on HJ at the moment. draiber = bintang? Anyway here's a copy and paste of my reply from over there.

I had a test drive in a new Picanto auto when we were looking for a car for my wife. As HJ mentions in his review the power steering was very stiff at speed. Presumably that's a quality control issue with the early cars. Otherwise I thought it was a good little car. In the end we went for a Fiat 500 which my wife had fallen in love with...

My wife found the same thing with the Hyundai i10, the sole reason she didnt buy one as it made her nervous. Given Hyundai is linked up with Kia, I wonder if the tech is the same.

Not linked up, same company. Like the VAG group a lot of the oily bits are fitted to many badge engineered models, although these days badge engineering seems to extend to whole bodyshells.

Did you get the auto or the stick shift merlin?

We went for the auto or dualogic as Fiat call it. Personally I would have gone with the manual as the auto isn't smooth when changing gears and doesn't hold on a hill like a traditional auto box. However it does the job of getting from A to B and the auto is easy to drive in traffic.

And it's good on petrol!

And £0 road tax - unusual for the autos that we looked at but then I really wanted a 'proper' auto.

Is the gearbox a DSG type then merlin? if your engine is the 1.2 (and a bit) then it probably suits the automated manual gearbox better, 'proper' autos perform better with larger engines IMO ...

Like 3 ltr V6 jobbies.

:-D

Apparently the dualogic is a "robotised" manual. I don't think it's as advanced as a DSG. We have the 1.2 engine as it's cheaper to insure (wife has 0 years no claims discount) than the other options and has been around a long time so should be reliable - at least the engine itself - not sure about the gearbox. The dualogic with the 1.2 engine is slow away from the lights but we can live with that as it's cheaper to buy and has lower overall running costs. It's still expensive for a small car but then I guess we paid for the 500 shape and style. It could be worse. Buying a Mini auto according to the Mini configurator would have cost £6k more for a similar spec. Not sure how people justify spending so much on a small car.

A 1.2 engine mated to a 'proper' auto gearbox would be even slower,

Different class though really - BMW innit :)

Yes - but HJ doesn't now let me back into sites I have already opened and can't correct this.

IMO there's nothing wrong with using different usernames. In terms of online security / privacy it makes more sense. This is particularly the case when using a word for multiple sites that is unusual which someone could google linking personas together.
