But that's just a Peel P50 as Top Gear so humorously showed a few years back.

What's different? You could get a car for £7.5k + VAT. But it might not fit in the lift at the BBC.

I wouldn't want to have a crash/crush in that! It also appears to be grossly over-priced; it is small but there are no economies if scale in production. My guess is that sales won't reach double figures.

There are safer small cars for that money.

If I was rich I might buy one as a toy to ride round the grounds of my mansion in, but there is no way I would use it as my main car or even the public roads.
|
It's not a car - it's only got 3 wheels! I would rather spend my £7500 on a bigger proper second hand car.
|
Horrible thing. The price is just a joke.

It almost makes a Smart look attractive. No sorry, forget I said that. Must be tired.
|
It almost makes a Smart look good value.

Who actually buys Smarts? How would you get to point in your life where that would seem like a good idea eh? "I know what I'll do today, I'll buy a completely stupid and useless car which will make me look like a not very successful estate agent"...
|
There are few around though, they are well made and have a high crash protection factor - that bit of home made nonsense is another matter though and should be banned.

Surprisingly rapid too, in some models anyway. But the Smart is hideous and its over-the-limit handling doesn't bear thinking about.

They have no sump plug, so if one turned over it would be a good opportunity to change the oil.

The new shape ones DO have a a drain plug.
Anyway, stop slagging them off - one of our fellow C4Pers used to have one.... well his better half did.......

I used to have a Smart! And for its intended use it was perfect. Don't knock something until you have tried it.
I kept one in town (a car is essential for my job) so that I could commute by train. They are perfect for driving around town (on smooth roads) and I could even get my telescopic ladder and tool box in the boot. Mine was the 'high powered' Brabus tuned one which came with leather, glass roof, and other luxuries. In the end it was quicker and cheaper for me to commute by car, and I went back to a normal car for that.
Poor suspension and jerky automated manual gearbox are it's only problems. And yes, I am heterosexual.

Rear wheel drive aren't they? Not much tail to hang out though :)

Rear engine, RWD.

I'd rather stay with the bike. At least you've got a chance if you're knocked off.......You'd be stuck in this thing if you were punted down the road like a bowling ball.

Well said - criminal punting that death trap given the roads we share these days.
|
This is only a third the price and would be much more fun.
