Worst stretch of road near you - Herr Sandwichmann
Good evening.

Drove along the B3128 today going out of Bristol past Long Ashton and towards Clevedon. Aside from the inevitable potholes, which seem to be being attended to hereabouts, the general road surface was appalling. I have to straddle both sides of the road to avoid potential damage to suspension, tyres or rims, and goodness knows what it's like for bikes.

Any roads around you which strike you as being dreadful? If you've complained about them, do they get sorted out?

Nice forum, btw. I wondered where everyone had gone!

The access road to my estate in a small town near Leicester. After a 100+ mile journey home with daughter asleep in the passenger seat for the majority of it, the appalling state of the road surface never fails to wake her up a minute or so before we reach my driveway :-( It was terrible before the winter; since the big freeze the surface is almost as mountainous as the Pennines.

I think we can agree that virtually all urban roads are in a terrible and sometimes dangerous state, due to money not being spent, despite the enormous amount of money taken from the motorist.

If I was in power, I would make it law that whenever a utility company digs up the road, they have to guarantee the repair for 10 years.

Rubbish governance again.

Have you reported it? Unless everyone starts reporting all the potholes then nothing will be done. Councils just pretend they haven't seen the large holes but if serious ones are reported then they have to fix them or start paying compensation for damage or injury.

I've had a blitz and reported about 4 separate areas. One council claim they inspect one road monthly which is a laugh as they did bog all repairs until I started reporting problems.

The edge of town mile long road where we live, in the Duchy of Cornwall, has been like the landing strip in Port Stanley c1982 for some considerable time.
The Arctic conditions of winter past was akin to adding fuel to an already roaring fire.
In 2 days recently, the entire road surface was stripped & resurfaced complete with new road markings and looks very nice indeed.

Darlington as a whole

However in particular (for anyone that knows it) heading towards the town centre down Woodlands Road (A68). The approach to the roundabout (outside rileys snooker hall) I was 2 cars behind a taxi (Vectra) who seemed to drop a foot into this massive, and it was huge cavern in the road – im glad I saw it because I was able to, just! Drive around it but ive never seen anything so big.

I reported it to the council on fixmystreet.com and it appears to be repaired properly. However other patching up just gets ‘blobs’ of tarmac put in it and its already startint to come away.
There are numerous other problems, that I have reported but Darlington council have now stopped responding to my mails and the last problem that I reported has (after 2 months, and a second email) since not been fixed.

I seem to recall that for the most part the fly boys missed the runway at Port Stanley, and the damage they did cause was repaired by the Argie Bargies in less than 24 hours.

Perhaps we need to conscript the unemployed into the army like they did?

Our very good friend Adolphus did that in the 30's and built the Autobahns so he could visit neighboring European countries with his HGV's.

I'm in Paris as it happens and have thoroughly enjoyed mixing it with the Frenchies who have bottled it on all but one or two occasions. Can't remember when I last enjoyed driving so much, maybe Rome two years ago, although I was in a VW Polo back then which actually only had half a V6 under the bonnet. Small note to Paris - if you want me to spend my hard-earned on your crappy plastic Tour Eiffel tat, try building a couple of car parks. And why is TomTom so bad tempered here? Does poodle crap interfere with the satelite signal?

Spent a couple of days driving back in the Smoke for the first time in a couple of years. Ken Livingstone should be castrated for what he's done to that city. In the 15 years I lived, worked and drove there, it was never as bad as it was yesterday when I spent an hour driving down Picadilly, moving two metres with every light change. I want my 8 quid congestion fee back.

And congrats to the city of Hull. A thousand miles across four countries without lifting off the gas and then a full 7 miles into Hull before hitting a pointless, coned-off section of carriageway where nobody was working on nothing for which we were all held up for half an hour. Well done to all involved.

And 85 quid to tank up...??? Why aren't you rioting?

Maybe because the populace have taken so much **** over the years, we have given in to the point where Government can do pretty much want they want, knowing that there well may be a bit of an initial griping but give it a couple of months and we will forget.

Soak the motorist ! Has it ever not been the mantra of any colour government.

Or perhaps we need to put convicts on road gangs as per Cool Hand Luke?

I remember that scene.

Spray some tar down and throw some sand down and let the vehicles flatten it down.

Thats about what they still do today, except they use something a little bit better than sand.

Nice and cheap.
