Which 'People Carrier' MPV - Cathay Pacific Driver
Hello

Which People Carrier / MPV can seat 7 adults and luggage for week away ? Sliding side doors and low cill height (easier to climb into rear seats) would tick all the boxes.

Thankyou

Buying or renting?

A lot of hire companies might have the GM Zafira which says it can seat 7 but it is cramped in the back. But there's others. But if a rental you need to be sure what you get is acceptable.

Hyundai i800 or KIA Sedona come to mind.

Getting 7 people plus luggage is difficult - maybe a roofbox will be needed ?

None of them. 7 people plus all their luggage just won't go in any standard MPV.

You will need a minibus, perhaps a VW Caravelle at least.

That or a new VW Sharan/Seat Alhambra with a big roof box.

We got a Sharan diesel auto a while back from Enterprise, which was perfectly acceptable.

The Zafira is too small as with 7 up there really isn't any more than two squashy bags left of storage space. Galaxy/Voyager/Alhambra etc size is what you need plus as suggested a roofbox on top.

One of the van derived MPV's such as the Fiat Scudo Combi or it's PSA badged siblings?

IIRC there's also a 7 seat version of the VW Caddy with a decent boot behind the last seat row.

Or do what my brother-in-law does. Provide a large vehicle for his wife to take the kids around in and a Ducati Moltofasto-Noisio for himself. There's always a way...

We have a sharan, and it wont take 7 adults plus suitcase's.

I believe that new sharan is slightly better, but cant see it being several suitcases better.

As we use all 7 seats we are now starting to look around for something bigger, and so far the only options are Caravele, Vito, i800 (cheap, and a lot of car for the money - just been offered a 6 month old one for 16K) or Citroen dispatch combi / peugeot expert tepe.

Cant really think what else will do, other than a mini bus.

Giving serious consideration to the i800 due to it being cheap, 5 year warranty and higher spec than most other options plus huge boot and 8 seats

Isn't the current Sharan/Alhambra a lot bigger. The current Galaxy is also quite big too. All a lot bigger than the previous Sharan/Alhambra/Galaxy.

Old Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra has 256L space with all seat in

New Galaxy 308L

New Sharan 287L

So looks like they are a bit bigger, but not a lot. By comparison the new focus has 316L boot.

Think it would be a struggle to get enough stuff for a holiday for 7 in any of those.

By cpmparison the Hyundai i800 has 851L space with 8 seats in

But the i800 is a van. Bit like the V-Class Mercedes.

If you only needed say 6 seats though one of those in a Galaxy or Sharan could be folded out of the way? Just a thought.

The i800 is based on a van but I believe has independent rear suspension compared to the solid axle of the van version.

Road tests seem favourable and plenty of boot behind the 3rd row (8 seats rather than 7 too).

Only downside is the 3rd row doesnt fold flat or come out easily if you want a bigger load bay - the 3rd row can basically tip forward against the 2nd row.

851 litres is probably enough for 5 or 6 good suitcases and some squashy stuff.

It is indeed based on the iload, but it has a different suspension set up to make it more car like. The op needs to seat 7 adults so depending on the distance worth remembering that the rearmost seats in a lot of MPV's are not big enough to be comfortable over any period of time.

I dont think there are any MPV's that are not van based that will take 7 adults plus suitcases. I guess a box roof box may help.

We are still leaning towards an i800 as it meets our needs to carry 7 plus plenty of capacity. My reservation is 34 mpg, but nothing else come close for spec/warranty
