Yes, I know its not legal but I had to take my nephew's Corsa to a local indie to have some "brackets" and cable replaced (apparently they all do it !) - odd experience - fully conscious of the problem it's surprising how difficult a hill start can be be without the re-assurance of the h/brake and ~I don't know how many times I pointlessly applied and released it......

ive just moved a car with no footbrake, i even put a large idiot sticker on the steering wheel to remind me
guess what i just did when i moved it?
|
And I bet it was still a surprise! Too many years of brain training for stop = foot on brake. :)

I had a Spitfire which didn't really have a footbrake for about 9 months. The handbrake wasn't up to much either. Interesting times.

Its a very common problem the back box often hits the rear chasis leg damaging the hand brake cable in the process. My dad drove his car for about 4 months without a hand brake or as it turned out rear brakes :(.

I remember a black cab driver in London talking about his FX3, I think, and its lack of performance as we chugged out to Heathrow along the M4.
He said something like: "It will only do about 60mph, but that's a safety feature really, 'cos the brakes don't work."

Try using the flaps on approach. :)

Ron,
Speaking of black cabs and getting home, how did you get on in the smoke today?
|
Departed secret location in NW at 04.15. Arrived at rendezvous in Kings X at 07.30. Contact made. Documents exchanged. Lunch eaten wearing carnation and carrying rolled up copy of Kit Car Monthly at pre-ordained bench. Returned to base 18.00. Not traced.

Good work, I'm sure the PM will show his gratitude in due course.

I thought you only needed a handbrake to stop the car, not drive it?

I thought the brakes were to stop a car and the handbrake to secure it when parked/stopped ;-)
Fun can be had with the handbrake when moving though.
And how do you do handbrake turns with an electronic parking brake?

Quickly I'd have thought.

I tried it recently, but the electronics won the battle and said no.
