Just for a bit of a drift. The clock in my Nissan doesn't keep very good time. Runs slow. I blame the Geordies. So I don't use my car as a watch.
As you were. Carry on.
|
You wanna buy a clock ?- it so happens....
|
Can't concentrate. Just read about Crock's Westie. Going to find photo albums now...

Why ? It's made in Mackemland. That's like blaming the Swiss or Austrians for a duff Alfa.

Amongst other watches I have a Seiko Kinetic divers watch I bought in 2002. It has a battery that recharges itself, it's ultra reliable and accurate to within 1 minute a year. I rarely wear anything else (watch-wise!).

Worth bookmarking this site Pat. Kinetics of that age can have problems. Details on the site.
www.kinetic-repairs.co.uk/
They fixed mine.

Thanks, ON. I hope I won't need to use the link!
Mine shows as a 5M62, and as I say it's been totally reliable. I wear it 24/7, in the shower, the sea, swimming pool etc. It owes me nothing. I also have a Tag Heuer which is a lovely watch and cost more than 3x the Seiko - during the same period has had 2 new batteries fitted (and the watertightness compromised!).

Gucci. Looks nice with some great design touches, but will rarely work properly, and ultimately spend more time in bits at the repairers than being used.
|
Omega and/or Rolex = Mercedes (high end, classy)
Brietling = Audi (high end, bit showy)
Tag Heuer = BMW (high end but with sportier pretensions)
Gucci = Maserati (beautiful design, but probably not for everyday use)
Timex = Vauxhall (everyday use)
Sekonda = Ford (everyday use)
Longines = VW (relatively expensive but still nice)
Jaeger Le Coultre = RR (exclusive and priced accordingly)
Toyota = Casio (bit dull but very reliable)
For the record, I drive an Omega E class and a Tag Heuer E30 325i, and wear a Merc Seamaster (from 1973) and a BMW F1.
:-)
Cheers,
Alex.

That's a useful list. Now all we need to do is substitute "forum members" for "cars"...
|
The Tag-Heuer / BMW parallel is spot on, provided the BMW is a 3. I suspect that somewhere in the corporate world is a secret room in which a certain salesy type is issued with his 318Cd (choice of black, grey or silver - as much thinking as we're going to make you do), a Tag-Heuer with rotating bezel (quartz models only, stainless steel bracelet obligatory) and a Montblanc Meisterstück ballpoint writy stick (no dangerously expressive fountain pens, please). No need to do any hard thinking or worry about individual self-expression; these are the signifiers of your status and you must display them with pride at every opportunity.
Still waiting for my invitation to the Issue Room.
};---)
|
Oh dear, I have a TAG Heuer with a rotating bezel (albeit an old knackered one) and a 3 series in black (again it's old and knackered).
Oh thank god- I write with a Cross CTX fountain pen, not a Montblanc.
Had me worried then!
:-)
|
I wear a £9.99 Casio watch, write with the nearest available Bic biro and drive a Ford Galaxy and a Volvo 360.
Guess how much I care about and value designer brands?
|
Not much, but you do still want to celebrate being anti brand, which, may I suggest is a label in it's self.
Anyway, Suzuki is orient, peugeot is Ebel and Renault is guess (if the electrics work)
|
I can guess how tight you are AV. Crab's 'arris at 50 fathoms springs to mind...
:-)))
|
Perhaps tight, HdB, but still mysteriously, constantly skint.
Ho hum.

In which case Rattle would be "Seiko automatic" cos he winds himself up daily. ;-)

Is it compulsory to change watches if I take the Chevy instead of the Jag?
Would it be three points or six if I got caught?

omega co-axial 8500 = VAG EA888
glycine = citreon
richard mille = aston martin
breil = fiat
|
>> omega co-axial 8500 = VAG EA888
Not sure about that one, the EA888's design is an evolution of the EA113. But...
The Co-Axial calibre 8500 was designed from scratch, a rare endeavour in a world that tends to rely on decades-old movement bases, escapements and winding mechanisms.
|
Nah, Aston Martin = that Bremont thing that's designed to survive ejecting from a Typhoon.
Wonderfully daft marketing idea, that one. British, too.
