Do the speed traps work at night?

I am not talking of fixed Gatso or Spec cameras - but mobile camera vans.

So far I never spotted one at night. All of them seem to operate in daytime only.

I was told a couple of years ago by the chap in charge of the Police element on one of these partnerships that they had the tech to do it. I believe that Cumbria Police do it. Very simple to do for them.

I have seen our local camera vans during the evening, (we don't have fixed cameras), but not recently. Maybe a funding / overtime issue?

Same here, but on a lit NSL dual carriageway, pitch dark too not just twilight.

Seen them as early as 6am.

Camera vans are also about deterrence, so it makes sense to send them out during rush hours when most people will see them.

On second thoughts the vans are usually on a nearby NSL dual carriageway on Sundays. I have also seen them on Christmas day, I would think the operators would be on overtime
