I am just curious. The sign was on the guys property. It wasn't offensive so what law could they have used to get him to remove it?
Being bloodyminded I would have probably asked the PCSO for more details!

>>>>>>because it hung over the pavement. <<<<<
Obstruction?
Also if it over the highway only LA can erect signs.

"Kent Police said the sign could have been a distraction for motorists because it hung over the pavement".
So if it had been entirely over his own property but equally visible it would not have been a distraction?
Why are pavement shop signs and A-boards not a distraction?
|
PCSO said "come along now, in the the spirit of good neighbourliness" or some such drivel and he agreed? No law at all?

(Just thought I'd say how nice it is to see you here, DVD. I trust uploading your post was straightforward. DD knows what I mean.)

Good, sensible policing decision!
What an idiot placing a sign that could distract drivers!
Hopefully now this common sense approach will be applied more widely. I am sick and tired of getting distracted when I drive. You try to put your foot down a bit and make some progress, when all of sudden you find that some do-gooder has put up a 60 mph sign or a no entry sign. Not only are they a distraction, I find myself having to slam the brakes on, to comply with their petty rules. Now that is dangerous!

Yes.. drivers who drive too fast and don't look ahead and anticipate problems are a danger to themselves and others.

Look at the date of that item on the BBC website!
|
I can't see councils being keen to advertise their failure to fix the roads.

Well, maybe, but doesn't putting up a speed limit or no-entry sign, making them brake sharply, just make matters worse?

Not sure the position of your tongue is sufficiently clear, SS.

Quite clear enough for me. It's hard to tell whether SS is a raving psychopath or a highly responsible citizen being sarcastic or ironic. What could be clearer, or more amusing and agreeable?
Heh heh... Keep it up SS...

""There was a complaint from a local who doesn't want to be identified" Typical cowardly snivelling g*t. If I was a stranger to an area I'd very much appreciate a warning of a carp road surface. In fact I have seen council sponsored signs warning of broken surfaces, raised metalwork etc. The chap should have given the council a bill for putting up their signs for them! This a variation on the "Flashing your lights to warn of a speed trap" rubbish.

Well, save for the small overhang, I couldn't see what he was doing wrong!

He committed the 'crime' of annoying a small minded busybody, hence police (well OK CPSO) time and taxpayer's money was wasted investigating the 'crime'.

I spotted it. Just a tiny little tremble at the side of the mouth, and the barest hint of a smile, perhaps?
