There was a small classic car display in Hamilton town centre today, i didn't know it was on but it made being dragged round the shops in Saturday drizzling rain quite nice.

I now know what an Austin A40 is, referred to by a few on here (Bakelite handbrake? That was never cool!) and it was in really nice condition.

The older ones without badges on i had no chance of identifying but interesting to look round all the same.

Nice size of display - just big enough to line the precinct and quite informal too, that added to the experience. You could get up as close as you wanted and where the owners were present, get a look inside too.

A woman was trying out the back seats of a distinctive machine (sorry, no idea what it was, excelsior or excalibur, something like that written on it - visible exhaust manifolds running from the engine bay to under the running boards) newspaper unfolded, sitting comfy in the grand rear seats and getting right into the swing of just enjoying being there while the owner did the gentlemanly chauffer routine.

Glad you enjoyed it Skodds. I like that sort of informal gathering too. I think Excalibur is a modern replica on a Sherpa chassis or suchlike. Often seen at weddings.

For our more superior forum members who live around Manchester :-) there is an 'Interesting Car Show ' on Sunday 10th of July in Didsbury Park on Sandhurst Road.

It was fun last year 'cos the weather was great. If anyone comes, I'm the very attractive guy with the big black car...come for a chat.

Or not. Originally on a Studebaker chassis, what made you think american car maker would source a Sherpa chassis I dont know :-)

I think you thinking of the Beauford ( www.beaufordcars.co.uk/the_kit.htm ) which is a british car in the same vein.

I know little of these horrible things, I thought Excaliburs were a Beaufort with a different name.

I bow to your etc, Stu.
