Volkswagen Jetta - Boot lid mystery - Stuartli
Some three times in recent weeks - including the latest just a few minutes ago - the Jetta Sport 170 has decided all by its clever little self to open the boot lid...

Unfortunately it's a trick I'm obviously not particularly enamoured with even though the self-opening feature using the remote control is very useful, especially when you're carrying a load of shopping bags.

Each time it has happened I've been in the house and the remote control has been in my jacket. I've not been out in it today so it's not a case of failing to shut the boot lid properly.

Anyone any clues please or heard of it happening before?

...:-)))

Does it happen at the same place/time of day?

Maybe someone else has a remote?

Might be some other sort of radio signal. I made a mobile phone call once and set off, I think, the alarm of a Jaguar parked nearby. When the puzzled owner came out of his house to turn the alarm off, I offered to make the call again to see if it really was my mobile. To my surprise he didn't want me to.

I suppose I should have waited until he went back inside and then done it anyway to satisfy my own curiosity. But I'm not that sort of person.

That was one thought in mind, but no other VWs close to my property - Vauxhalls and BMWs on each immediate side...:-)

Happened first time on Tesco car park and the two other occasions on the driveway.

Must be an electrical gremlin...:-(

Worth putting a bungee inside for the time being....at least it won't fly up too high.

I had a spare key for my neighbour's car, which had neen mine. He came home one day and locked it I opened it from behind the curtains. This went on for a while until he twigged what was happening.........how we chuckled once I got home from casualty !

I had a similar problem with my 56 plate Passat, but the boot was opening when I started the car. I had the problem fixed by dealers, not sure what they did but they gave me the impression it wasn't an uncommon fault.

As you say not an unknown fault on the Passat.
