I know what some people think about them, but here we have to have dipped beam or DRL's. My old Landcruiser doesn't turn turn the lights on automatically, and I keep forgetting. Plus it seems stupid to have all the lights, including the dash lights, on all the time, especially as some dash lights dim down with the lights on (like the cruise and climate) so you can whats happening.
So now I can just drive off without having to do anything, and they wll turn off automatically when the lights are turned on. Ha, it's like driving an Audi, but without the stereotyping.

You Scandinavian chav you,
Which ones did you buy?

If it's a case of having to anyway why not, sounds like the best solution.
Good idea to have them automaticaly going off when you put the normal lights on, was that your wiring skills or did you get a man in.
Hope we don't have to retrofit the things here, similarly i hope some bright spark doesn't insist that high level brake lights have to be retrofitted.

These work automatically. I like DRLs, but retrofit always looks naff. :-)

Piece of cake to fit actually. Just 3 wires - ign, earth, and a wire to the sidelight that knocks them out when not required. The Landcruiser has an auxilary fusebox with a perm live, ign and acc, as well as an earth. I managed to fit them in the air vents on the front bumper, so don't look too bad. With a solid steel bumper (remember them?) there isn't a great choice of places really.
They were about £50 from our Halfords (but much better) equivilent. They seemed surprisingly well made, and with proper automotive waterproof connectors. But as they're probably chinese, I made sure I kept the receipt.

I fitted them in my foglamp positions 18 months ago. They are small round and have 4 Cree emitters like a 4 leaf clover. As soon as I put them on, I noticed far fewer people pull out in front, even if they look like they're about to, they suddenly stop. Similar to this...

The naff ones are the dim ones that use keyring torch LEDs that serve no purpose.

Is it just Audis that switch off the DRL when indicating? I assumed it was part of the EU requirement, but I saw a 10 plate MB today and the DRL didn't switch off when he indicated.
|
Only guessing but Audis' are built into the headlamp, so are close to the signal lamp, but MB are in the lower valance, so maybe won't mask the signal, but I too wonder what the regs say.
