Should be in technical, perhaps. I think it may be seen more here.
A lady friend of mine has a very nice HiLux Surf......unfortunately she's disabled and has very little money so I try to help her if I can.....she's cute as well !
Anyway, the tailgate window won't go up or down meaning she can't get the tailgate down. It will only open if the glass is down inside the door. I've been asking her to let me look at it for ages but she hasn't wanted to bother me. So, she popped into the garage opposite her house and was told she needed a new motor, etc, at £480 plus VAT....haha !
We could hear the motor running, both on the switch in the cab and on the tailgate key.
I crawled in the back and removed the trim and I can feel the motor running...both directions. There is a toothed quadrant which operates the regulator...I presume a worm gear on the motor drives this...but it doesn't ! I can't move the quadrant by hand as it's stopped by the worm....seemples. Diagnosis complete.
Probably need a motor...25 to 65 quid on EBay. Difficulty is getting at it..very cramped for my hands/
.
I did notice, on swinging the spare wheel back, that there is a plastic panel in the centre of the tailgate on the outside. This looks to be about where the motor and regulator are.
The panel has the keylock in it and also the spare wheel catch goes across it...bolts are on view. Does anyone know if this panel comes off and if it's of any benefit to remove it ?
It looks to me to be the key to the job but none of the posts on the Surf forum dealing with motor problems mention it.
I've registered on the forum to get advice but it won't let me post there. I'm waiting a reply from their forum admin about that at the moment.
Any experience here ?
Ted
