Cash for crash is one thing, but murder, and attempted murder?

You really never know what creatures manage to struggle out from under the stone onto their two hind legs and walk among us.

Pure evil.

Don't think I'd have fancied being a juror.

It started in February and included 50 days of prosecution evidence.

But it wrapped up fairly quickly, the defence case was about 10 minutes and they were only out for four hours.

Seems a pretty fancifull conviction. Police, Ambulance and Fire Brigade in Grampian all thought it was an accident for a decade and a half but then they all spontaneously remembered something very wrong at the time - sure.
Very heavy on the intent too in NZ. The notion of anyone carrying spare fuel in a can is unheard of? I think the guy is a fraudster and a Walter Mitty but if he gets a decent appeal QC he'll walk.

One would like to think the QC he had at trial was decent.

Fifty days of prosecution evidence takes some dismantling, as he's found already.

The defence case was described as 'short' - least said, soonest mended.

A tactic used when a defendant's account wouldn't stand up to careful scrutiny.

And there's no indication yet of any grounds for appeal.

I'm surprised that after such a lengthy trial with a massive amount of evidence, that the jury were able to come to a decision in les than 4 hours. Wonder if they'd already made their minds up?

...Wonder if they'd already made their minds up?...

They were probably exhausted and wanted to get out of the building as soon as possible.

There was a massive amount of evidence, but very little from the defence.
