Toyota car owners in the US can pursue claims that the carmaker caused the value of their vehicle to fall.

Only in the USA :-(

I wonder if this is being driven by lease co's. Leasing is popular in the US so if a finance house have 10's, if not 100's of thousands of toyotas out and each fetches a few hundred less than thats a big hit

Unfortunately the lunacy ends up here in short order, the good things such as a persons right to protect themselves and their property don't.
|
Yes, wouldn't it be nice if every petty criminal here carried a gun?
Don't tell me, GB - you've devised a magic system that would make weapons freely available but only to upright citizens with property to protect, and criminals will never get hold of them because it won't be allowed.
There's much to like about America and Americans, but the prevalent idea that weapons in private hands confer any kind of freedom is one I'll never be convinced of.
|
The chairman of Toyota recently announced that it is becoming too expensive to produce cars in Japan and they are considering moving all production elsewhere.

Unfortunately when you criminalise something like guns, only criminals have them, with predictable results.
|
And if you decriminalise them, everyone has them with even more predictable results.
|
We only need to look across the Atlantic for an ongoing lesson in unfettered gun control.

From Wikipedia
"There were 52,447 deliberate and 23,237 accidental non-fatal gunshot injuries in the United States during 2000.] The majority of gun-related deaths in the United States are suicides, with 17,352 (55.6%) of the total 31,224 firearm-related deaths in 2007 due to suicide, while 12,632 (40.5%) were homicide deaths."
Surely sufficient information for anyone to understand that easy access to guns is not a good idea.

The world is suffering from over population. Easy access to guns is a great idea.

Its not working in Iraq, or Afghanistan

The country with the highest gun ownership is Switzerland, yet with a very low murder rate.
|
Very difficult to generalise in America.
Some states have strict controls others have not...Some states you can carry a gun openly and others don't.Washington has srtict controls and a high murder rate.Florida is the opposite.
No matter how much censorship you have it won't stop a criminal carrying a gun.Look at the madman last year who shot people at random and he had a licence.
Would anybody break into somebodys house knowing they where armed?I doubt it.Getting back to Toyota.;)

A friend from the US (now at attorney there) told me if someone broke into your home (USA home) and had a gun and needed to shoot. Wait until they are in your home or would fall in after you shoot. Fair enough I say. He did have a Kalashnikov (AK47) mind.

Agreed. And although they have the gun, they don't have any amunition at home (or at least my girlfriend's father didn't, 30 years ago).
