You won't have to go though a dealer in future to buy BMW parts and accessories.

Car care products??????????.Sounds like expensive polish!

Interesting idea, wonder if it'll take off. Signs point to not though.
Free delivery. So more expensive parts. Clearly not understanding the punter expects a deal online.

Not sure that that is true for something like this. The attraction will surely be the availability and the ability to avoid a trip to the main dealer

you really cant say that till you see the pricing. and anyway, BMW is not dearer than Nissan or Mitsubishi for parts.

Depends on the dealer i suppose. Availability's probably not a problem - worst case 4-5 days from Germany for a model that went end of life ~9 years ago.
I guess i've a slightly skewed view. I wouldn't go anywhere other than the parts desk at Kyle St. The guy that runs the desk is a really nice guy, outstanding even. Can't imagine anyone ever having a problem with him. Plus i get full trade discount and i haven't spent that much with them really.
Reading that press release just strikes me as they see this as a magic money spinner. Customers will flock to it for some magical reason. I doubt it, not unless they're getting a deal.
Which to be fair, as zero says you're often getting a deal anyway - 2 year parts warranty and for a lot of common parts they'll price match ECP & GSF anyway so it's a no brainer to go for the official parts.

I have no relationship with the chap at Kyle St. I havea very good relationship with my computer. And the post boys deliver parcels directly to my desk. Mail order makes life so easy - something I'm prepared to pay extra for. (The last parts desk I visited, Audi iirc, was a 30 minute drive, and a half hour wait.)

Disappointed, it's an opportunity missed for BMW. Full retail price except for a couple of token high margin accessories sporting fairly minor discounts.
BMW 5 Series front brake pads:
BMW eBay Store - 90
ECP OEM items (Textar) - 71.99 (-30% discount today as well)
GSF - Much cheaper but not OEM Textar brand
