M6 Toll – ANPR in Use? - Bromptonaut
Good Friday saw us motoring up to North Wales via the M6 toll.

Stopping at Norton Canes for a leg stretch we noticed a couple of Police officers using a camera on the over bridge. First thought was a speed trap. Then we noticed the ‘plain clothes’ Jag nearby and two other fastish vehicles waiting just past the end of the on-slip.

Sure enough, a mile or so further on there were several cars stopped on the hard shoulder with further police in attendance. If this was an ANPR pull for insurance or other ‘flagged’ vehicles then I’d say it was pretty effective.

Can MLC tell us anything?

Common sight in London on stretches of road where there is no escape.

Earlier posts re the M6 have suggested that they are speed cameras monitoring speed thru the slow down section on the approach to the toll booths. People tend to hammer along and then slow down quickly but not in compliance with the progressive 70 -50 - 30 limits

Norton Caines is at the other end form the toll booths tho. The main ones anyway.

I think its just because people speed along there, I know I have. Its nice and smooth, relatively lightly trafficked and very easy to wind up the clock.

Doesn't that rather depend on which way you're going?

You can access the services from either direction even though the buildings are effectively on the southbound side.

They are close to the northbound booths, which are "main" if you're going that way...

But the 50mph speed limit for the northbound booths is some way after the Norton Caines services flyover.

Yeah probably, he wont travel further than 400 yards away from the donuts.

Norton Canes is a nice service area. Clean loos and the staff in the petrol station are friendly. Never tried the doughnuts.

= All the other services are messed up by the type of people who don't/won't/can't pay £5/£10 to go on the toll road :)

I've only been in there once, and that was more out of curiosity as I knew it was unlikely I'd use the toll road very much. It was clean, but then it was brand new.

I've seen the operation referred to by the OP several times at the same place.
