Our drop kerb area which allows access to our drive has been damaged by use, obviously caused by our vehicules as we gain access/egress. One of these is a meduim size van. The worst part is the area joining out undamaged drive, making quite a deep hole. Would the cost of repair usually fall wholly to the local council or would we be expected to make a contribution? The local Gov. site is useless other than only approved contractor can attempt repairs? I am going to report in tomorrow in any case as it is becoming dangerous, but would appreciate any ideas?

they might kick off about the size of your van.
recently i applied for a dropped kerb, diid some research everthing seemed ok . it cost me 90 quid for somebody to come round and say yes thats ok. only they didnt say ok. they said there's already to much dropped kerb on this stretch, so NO .

That is what I was thinking. It is a Vito traveliner and only used for pleasure, but it has a kerb weight over 1600Kg. The local Gov site does say the "newly contructed drop kerb areas will be reinforced to take the additional load" but I have my doubts as it doesn't seem to have been originaly.

Don't tell them about the van - they don't need to know about it do they ?

I was not planning to but it's on the drive most of the day as we use the car unless all the kids and dogs need to go out together. I could park it round the corner for a while I suppose. The pavement does seem weak outside our house and a normal car, would over time caused similar damage, we have had the van a while and a Galaxy before that so it has lasted quite a some time anyway.

1600Kg is not a particularly high kerbweight. My last four cars have all been about that or a bit more (Ford Scorpio estate, 2 x Honda CRVs, Mitsubishi Outlander).

Well as I said we will report it tomorrow and see what happens. If they ask for a contribution I have a bit of ammunition ie; my drive is ok and some cars are heavier.
