Haha you're definitely a fruit and nut case BB :-) louder than I reckoned it'd be.
Amazing that something so violent can be a safety improvement.
They do cause injuries but just better to hit a soft bag exploding in your face than a hard steering wheel at a closing speed of say 80mph.
I too have done the same thing in a workshop to test one on an old cavalier that we were scrapping and yes they do go with a bang.
Whats worse is having several airbags and side curtains going off and seat belt tensioners all at once in a big accident with all the doors and windows shut ! oh boy your left with ringing ears and so much smoke you wonder whether your on fire !
May be those that see your excellent demo will consider sitting further away from the steering wheel !
I always cringe when I see young girls almost over the top of the wheel trying to drive ! oh boy they will suffer horrendous burns and their jewlery gets buried in their neck ! as for piercings I hate to think what could happen !
I would think the noise of the collision will blend with the bang a bit though.
That is true, I still have vivid memories of the loud bang in the Punto when I was in a crash in 2002. No airbags in either car.
Now I am disappointed - I thought BB was doing something seriously interesting.....

as a an earlier viewer of the video pointed out, with a little more funding just think what the Lithuanian space project could do !
So who can name the car?????
It is a late 90's/early naughties FIAT Bravo :).

Airbags damaged my ear, I am partially deaf, and can only hear up to 8khz in my right (curtain airbags).
Based on your experience of a side collision, would you have been better without curtain airbags? Really interested to know.
Only big accident I've been in was a rear collision by an HGV so no airbags deployed. Back of my head could have done with one instead of the roof impacting me. and my wife cut her lip and broke a tooth on the dash board... from a rear impact.
Who knows, There was no intrusion into the cabin too far behind the A post. I suspect it was the seat side airbags that broke my ribs. The drivers airbag certainly burned my arms, and the curtain airbags have damaged my hearing in my right ear.
So from your experience they improve safety. My brother had an accident in a Sierra many years ago. It left the road and went through a brick wall. The impact of the steering wheel ripped his chin open. No other injury.
Makes you wonder if Audi's procon-ten was a better idea? And have some way of side impact pushing seats instead of hitting us with airbags.

In that case, I won't be going for the groin airbag when it becomes an option.
I always knew you only listened through your groin.
