Lidl is featuring more car accessories from April 4th, including a larger than usual car, wood, stone etc polisher that looks quite interesting (demonstration video on the website):

I bought the LED lamp and am very impressed with it.

Last year I bought a box of seals from Lidl. About 390 for under a fiver !
They're for mostly plumbing applications but have a vast number of fibre washers, O rings, flat rings, plastic and tap washers. I found that 15 of the flat, neoprene rings fitted the water transfer ports on the Jowett perfectly. To date, all we have had is O rings which tend to bulge out when tightened. You need 4 on an engine.

I'm just in the process of getting in touch with the factory in Wuppertal to see if I can get these rings alone.

Mr. Lidl...you're a star !

Thanks for that, i'll get one of those LED worklamps, and a set of axle stands.

Seals??
Mr. Lidl...you're a star !
Especially in France - damn good Cotes de Rhone and Bordeaux Superior for 1.19 euros a bottle!!
After a couple of bottles I tend to forget about plumbing applications!!

PS Don't know why people make fun of Lidl in UK - some good stuff and seems to be well regarded in France and Germany. Got some really good work gloves and trousers there recently very cheaply, and a decent drill/jigsaw/angle grinder (for light use admittedly). And their Coullommiers and Bleu d'Auverge cheese is excellent and half the price of other supermarkets. Some good beers as well.

Wot Lidl need is for some celeb to be photo'd shopping at their local store, you won't be able to move in the place after.

Admit i do prefer Aldi for grocery shopping, a bit better range, especially of veggies.

Both of them are brilliant at the checkouts, despite there being few you get whizzed through.

You don't see many "executive" cars in ALDI / LIDL car parks, badge snob free zones. :-)

You see plenty of Bentleys in our Aldi car park but, to be fair, ( jeez I've said it again ) there are good local reasons for that...Some of the drivers even wear fleeces for goodness sake.

I suspect part of Lidl/Aldi's image problem is the superficial resemblence of some of their stores to the old (and unlamented) Kwiksave.

Another vote for the magnetic LED light. We keep ours stuck to the fridge, near the back door, handy if there's a power cut and saves scrabbling in cupboards for a torch.

I miss Kwiksave....most enjoyable and steady job i ever had doing their store deliveries, to a man we'd still be there now.

Don't kid yourself. In my town there have always been plenty of M-Bs, Audis, BMWs etc on the car parks of the Lidl and Aldi stores, both of which are modern, bright and very well laid out outlets.

Not so long ago you could have seen a heavily loaded 330Ci outside my local Lidl, weighed down with 48 bottles of Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc @£5 a time.
Supplies running low already.
Just waiting for a deal on Benedictine.

.....and that brings us back to bottles of Spitfire, Hobgoblin and the like at a quid a bottle when all the big name want to spank you for £1.89 or so !

I've just binned a pair of Lidl £2.99 trousers which have served me well around the manor for a year. A new pair have been christened with the oily handprint today.

My boot lamp cost me 99p from Quality Save, it is five LEDs and some AA betteries. The Belcro I used to attach it to the parcel shelf cost more that that though! Still a very cheap mod which does the job and won't drain the car battery if it goes faulty.

I bought my bike saddle from Lidl, far better than the mountain bike one it came with. Only cost me £8.99 and seems to be as good as what my local bike shop want to sell for £25.00

You should get her to wash her hands. ;>)

It's hard enough getting her to do an oil change !

You do in our Lidl (Leatherhead) on Wednesdays - full of black Audis. But then they are the Lidl managers cars in for the weekly meeting upstairs.

I'm quite happy with the 'ex-Kwiksave' look of the branches if it keeps the prices down (like 4 pints of milk for £1, while Tesco charge £1.25). The austerity look is a European thing, most supermarkets over there have the same basic decor.

According to today's paper both Lidl and Aldi have record shares in the UK supermarket, er market. So they must be doing something right.

That's weird. I always find the variety (and quality) of fruit and veg in Lidl far greater than Aldi. And they have some organic options too. Lidl's tomatoes on the vine are a particular favourite, Aldi only seem to do rubber ones in shrink wrap.

I dragged my wife into one of these paces recently (I can't even remember whether it was Lidl or Aldi) and one thing that struck me is that people seemed quite "posh" - to my wife's great relief. We ended up buying about forty quids worth of stuff that we didn't know we needed - mainly a laminator and a wireless doorbell.

Wifey has heard that there's a Waitrose being built in Chester so is wetting herself at the prospect of that!

Always lots of Audis, 4x4s etc outside our local Lidl.
There's even one bloke who parks a V12 XJS convertible there while shopping and doesn't even bother to put the roof up.
France is like the UK - lots of people will only shop in Leclerc or Carrefour like the Brits will only shop in M and S or Waitrose. And pay the price.
I expect the bloke with the XJS would say that shopping in Lidl, with their excellent quality products, low prices and customer service helps him cope with the petrol bill. In fact I know he would...

I've graduated more towards Lidl than Aldi of late.

I think the food at both is excellent, as well as being a little cheaper.

Lidl do a cooked ham which I think is superior to many I've had from the dearer places, and I've posted before about Lidl's yummy porridge.

Another favourite of mine is their gorgonzola cheese - consistently excellent.

The Lidl I use is near Catterick Garrison, so many of the customers are squaddies' wives who recognise the brands from time spent in Germany.

Presumably, Lidl is not regarded as the cheap place for scummy people in its home country.

Lidl's German Parma-style ham is wonderful, and only about a pound for 20 slices. Bargain of the century.

My sister is an example of the army wife (actually an ex-officer herself too) Iffy speaks of - she spent time in Germany, before which she was dyed in the wool Waitrose. Now at their current UK billet (bro-in-law in Afghanistan), there's hardly anything non-Lidl/Aldi in the house. He was always a much worse snob than her, but has also succumbed to the German discounters. He's daft, but there are limits, obviously.

...Lidl's German Parma-style ham is wonderful...

Thanks for that, I shall have a look next time I'm in.

There are quite a few cooked hams and it's not always easy to work out which is which.

Which is the better cooked ham? Any specific "brand"?

The one I've been buying of late is called Dulano traditional smoked cooked ham.

The tray is quite large - about 8" X 6" - and quite distinctive because it is printed with a full colour leaf salad design.

Price of the last pack was £1.94 for 0.216kg, which equates to £8.99 a kilo.

Cheap, but not dog cheap.

My local LIDL's close to Wetherspoon's.

Thursday night, the LIDL car park attendant knocks off at 5.00. We leave the KIA in their car park, have a curry and pint for a fiver, do the shopping.

Who said cheapskate?
