I had to work yesterday. Boo hoo hoo.
Spent the day at the local racetrack watching the Rec Bull showcar zipping up and down.
It is the 2006 Toro Rosso STR1, and is sent out on tour so that the places without a GP can get to see thrill of the F1.
Highlights of the day
*Breakfast at a beachfront restaurant whilst watching the Aus GP.
* Driving from there to the track behind an N reg 355 Berlinetta.
* catching the local Rotax go kart championships from right next to the hairpin on the track. Man, those guys are good!
* Schmoozing in the Red Bull pit with the crew and driver - Neel Jani - and getting a real lowdown from the guys, who were happy to help the journalists
* Being feted by Red Bull on the balcomy above the pit. These guys know how to entertain. The only problem was the only beer they had was Heineken. How I suffer for this job!
*Speaking to the MD of Pirelli SA, who was grinning like a cheshire cat after all the negativity about the tyres leading up to the Oz Gp, and was happy to see his company vindicated
*Speaking to the Red Bull gearbox man: "Did you enjoy the race this morning?" "Nope. Didn't watch it. NEVER watch it. I get too nervous. I'll watch it later"
