I mean Zero of course.
I landed at an RAF base, the road signs are British as are the phone boxes and post boxes
The petrol is £1.10 a litre, the beer is £1 a pint, The gin is £8.50 a litre, the currency is pounds, the coppers look British yet everyone drives on the right.
Where am I?

Gibraltar?

My thought too. Gibraltar. If so keep away from the apes, they will steal bags, food, or even glasses off your face. They move fast too. Hope you have a pleasant time wherever you are.

>> Paradise ??
What, at those prices? Do me a favour.
Juice 3/6d a gallon, beer 1/9d a pint, gin 25 bob, smiling coppers who would give you a clip over the ear just for starters... I lived there once. But that was before the banking crisis and Ken Livingstone.
Eheu! Eheu! Where's it all gone?
If you have time and wheels, Zeddo, the grand mosque at Cordoba is worth a trip in its own right if you haven't seen it already.

And an income of only £600 a year.

Malta was original thought, but way out...:-(

Nah, Malta drives on the left. As do Cyprus, so they're out too. Ditto Channel Islands.
Gots to be Gib. Only other one I think could be Falklands. But can't imagine he's got a reason for going there.
Was thinking Z must have won the pools and gone to Bermuda, but they use dollars.
|
must be Barbados! - they used to be a british colony! and i think they used to have British Policemen too!
|
The cars have British style plates with a country code GB*
under the EU ring of stars.
What's is the * ?
|
Got to be G. Alderney, Jersey, Guernsey and Man all drive on the left - unless there's another I don't know about.
|
It's GBZ - Gibraltar.
The US Sub that's been slinging missiles at
Libya left port yesterday, a Brit sub expected in tomorrow.
|
My mistake. G's Guernsey, Z's Gib.
|
Got no wheels AC. Intend to do the cordoba in the next couple of years.
Did intend to get the fast ferry to Tangiers but steering clear of North Africa at the mo
|
On holiday or on the run?

Wise move, those cruise missiles have been known to Zero in on the wrong target. :-)

We are talking about Zero here ! They wouldn't dare.
|
I think ON was talking about his old shipmates
|
Legend has it that there is a tunnel leading from Gibraltar under the Straits to North Africa...
Take me with you, I can see...
|
>I think ON was talking about his old shipmates.
Impossible.
He also said "They move fast too."
|
Facial hair and smell a bit though...

OK, OK. They might be ex-Navy.
Red Harrises and blue balls as well?

Rock Apes is the "affectionate" term for the RAF Regiment....!
|
Have not been there for several years now but SWMBO and I spent many happy times sailing from Gibraltar ....the boat we had was moored at Shephards Marina which was right by the end of the runway.I do believe it has been redeveloped now.
When sailing many times dolphins would come and play in the bow wave ...
If you are still there Zero - Biancas at Marina Bay was a good hostelry
www.biancas.gi/
Also try a trip up on the cable car and then walk down the Med steps which run from the summit round the back end of the rock.Fabulous views.

Also if you are at the garage in Winston Churchill Avenue check out if one of the petrol pumps still has the bullet hole in it where the SAS caught up with the IRA ......

Has new pumps!

Had dinner at Biancas last night, during the day took the cable car to the top and walked down via St Michaels cave, the great siege tunnels, the ww2 tunnels, and the moorish castle.
Shopping therapy today, Nicole is tunnelled out.
Met several of ONs shipmates on the journey down
|
Not sure how to respond to that. :-)
There are submarines and apes at Gib at the moment.
|
Met several of ONs shipmates on the journey down.....
Be careful because whilst the Apes that you normally see at the den are pretty tame there are others which live over the back of the Rock on the water catchments area which are very wild and should be approached with caution if at all.
Just a point about the retail therapy - the High St is cheap but it it still needs some good haggling to get a bargain and note that the airport shop certainly used to be cheaper for the booze and baccy if you are buying any . Be careful to check the regulations for what you can bring back because Gib is not in EEC .
Glad to see you found Biancas....hope your meal was OK .Another good place we used to eat was Gatsbys in the Watergardens .
|
Gib is in the EU (since 1973), but is not part of the EU customs and vat area.

|
Correct Alanovic...not widely known however.
Spanish Islands such as Tenerife fall into this category which is why I warned about it as a friend fell foul of customs when returning from there with what he thought was the correct amount of booze and baccy and ended up losing the lot......
He was not a happy bunny .....
|
Nice place Gib is, a bit rough in places like around Devil's Tower. I've been there a few times and enjoyed it. The tunnels are interesting, but only worth doing once. The sections closed off to the public are quite interesting huge underground ammunation stores, a power station, water storage, tunnels big enough to drive 2 HGVs side by side down, used for the storage of tanks I think. Have you tried casemates square or Irish town?
|
Electronics and cameras are dear, jewlery and watches can be haggled to cheap levels
Perfume is cheap and booze and tags are ludicrously cheap.
Done casemates, and irish town, just having afternoon tea on the wisteria terrace at the rock hotel
|
Bring us some tags back then Z?
|
Price of petrol suddenly dropped here.
95 Ron now £1.00 litre and diesel £0.98p
|
What is the duty free petrol and diesel allowance? Can you bring me back some diesel?
I will be in Australia soon (and using petrol :-( ) at 86p a gallon :-))).

Egypt was about that price last time I was there, I don't think I would get away with a jerrycan as cabin baggage. :-)
