Driving the wrong side of "Keep-Left" bollards - Dulwich Estate
Is it illegal ?

In London I've noticed more and more drivers ignoring the keep left bollards when it's just a tad inconvenient to say, slow down and negotiate a parked car positioned 20 metres past the island (pedestrian refuge - I think it's called).

The easy route seems to be to stay on the gas and drive on the right hand side.

I wouldn't even think of doing this unless in exceptional circumstances like a broken down vehicle blocking the way.

Is it common all over the country now ? Is it a new thing ?

Mitsubishis mainly?

I have photographic evidence - shown on this site - that Mitsubishis go left of "keep left bollards"

Take that back you.

Just making conversation. Random thoughts you know.

Not noticed it with bollards. Mini roundabouts, very common. Met somebody nose to nose the other day as she was passing the wrong side of one of the satellites on the Hemel Hempstead magic roundabout. We both had to stop, and she looked most put out.

The locals at Kensworth up the road all seem to go the wrong side of this one without lifting, when travelling west on the 'main' road.

The council put 'traffic calming' on a road I use:

I frequently see people drive the wrong side.

I've seen it locally, some youths overtaking a line at some speed and with some obvious impatience.
Could have been nasty if a car had come from the road on the right in their direction or a pedstepping off after looking to his right only.

Sat in Sackville Street by the UMIST building, 2nd in queue of about 10 waiting for the lights.
BMW comes up our offside and stops at the non-existant stop line, followed by another car.
It's not a one way street, don't know what was in their minds, if anything.

A duoble decker turned in from the right and faced off the Beemer......He and the other ended up reversing back down the street with the bus almost pushing them !

Fun to watch their time saving trick fall apart !

Cycling late one night past Catterick Racecourse was very glad that a Police Subaru went right of the keep left island to give me some clearance. The lights were on but no sirens and a very nice rasp from the exhaust.

I was once nearly T-boned at a three-road mini-roundabout.

Going straight on, I steered to the left to avoid driving over the hump, before steering right again.

The driver behind thought I was turning left, and had to brake sharply as I unexpectedly manoeuvred back into his path.

Of course, none of this would have happened had he not been tailgating.

At sea "Keep Left" (or port, of course) means "leave on the left". It causes endless confusion when someone is shouting directions when spotting buoys etc in a winding channel.

I know some of you drive barges, but suggesting we put buoys out instead of bollards is a bit much.

Question, why do yanks pronounce it "boo-eee"?

Yes, why do Brits pronounce it boy
When Yanks pronounce it boo-ee?
And why do men shout: 'Spadger! OI!'
When ladies just trill: 'Coo-ee!'?

I'll take my ease in the Antipodes
Far off from all this hooey,
And moor my boat to an anchored float
In a bay near Wanganui.

The bollard will have the blue Keep Left arrow pointing in that direction and downwards.

This is a sign which if ignored the offence of failing to conform to the idnication of a Traffic Sign applies. Can be dealt with by LA if thuey have been authorised by Parking Charge Notice or if not by Plod and will require NOIP and 3 points on the Licence plus fine (FPN)

Many years ago I asked a French lorry driver what his politics were.

He replied: ‘Toujours du côté du coeur!’ He was a communist and a very nice chap who ate two dozen oysters the moment he reached the Mediterranean basin.

But how does ‘Toujours du côté des couilles!’ play in the new Poland, BBD, hand on, er, heart?

I received a PCN from Wandsworth Council for my old ZZR600 dated two days after the transfer of ownership for this exact offence.
