Following on from the thread in non-motoring, I read the following link which outlines the immediate impact on the motor industry (cars). There will obviously be the motorcycle and heavy plan industriesto consider too.

1128: Car manufacturer Toyota says it will suspend operations at all 12 of its factories in Japan on Monday while it confirms the safety of its employees. One of its subsidiaries, Central Motor Company, has a factory in Miyagi prefecture, near Sendai, which produces the Yaris model.

I don't believe Toyota will have airfields full of cars. Aren't they one of the biggest practitioners of JiT ? OK, not ALL of there cars are built in Japan but maybe a supplier is.

Be careful of grey imports for a while.

The water smell and rust might be the worse of your problems if it glows in the dark as well!

Could be wrong, but I think those burnt out cars are Infinitis (Datsuns with velvet).

Not really, there are only two manufacturers I read who do not use Japanese manufactured components in their vehicles.
Denso is one supplier co. which I read had been badly affected.
