In August 2009 the man from Sud-U-like signed a 2 year contract to be The Face of Mercedes

Depending on which report one reads he got 1 million euros or £1 Million and has to use a Mercedes as his personal transport and they gave him a CLS to help him on his way.

Has anybody actually seen any advertising or promotional literature involving the ugly one with Mercedes?

If you had, would it have been likely to persuade you that a Mercedes was the car for you?
There was a rumour that he had been rejected as the Face of Rhodius.

It makes sense, my neighbours Merc is sulky and troublesome, and demands huge sums of money are thrown at it to make it play ball.

There was a lot of negative comment about it at the time - but then that gets Mercedes' name in the press, and that's what these deals are about.

Hid Dad got a Merc too, presumeably as part of the deal, and got it nicked after leaving the keys in when he went to get fuel.

Lexus are using Kylie Minogue to advertise their new hybrid, the CT 200h; there's a link to the TV add I saw last night here:

Seems a bit of an odd choice. Although she still enjoys chart success I would say she's musically past her peak (she's 42), and is best known for being in an Australian soap and knocking out popular but fairly lightweight pop tunes. Perhaps my perception of her and/or the Lexus are skewed?

No - as we used to say in the Middle East - He has a face like the South end of a Northbound Camel! As Henry K notes, real Merc owners weren't too impressed!
