Insurance renewal - have they changed anything? - Fenlander
A few weeks back in an insurance renewal thread I commented...... **So for loyalty I think we'll stay with the local town broker who favours local people**

Both our renewals were last week and we went with the local broker as their prices were just a few pounds over the comparison websites better deals.

Just got the paperwork through and see without consultation they have dropped the business use from Mrs F's car and reduced my mileage from 15k to 10k. Their reply to my mail was they *thought* they were quoting to our needs.

The uplift to put these two policies on a correct footing now makes them too expensive. I feel a cancellation mail may be in order tomorrow first thing!

What is even more annoying than the cost is the fact, had I just filed the paperwork away, we could have been left exposed without the correct cover.

You did read the quote details before accepting? Or maybe not?

>>> did read the quote details before accepting

That's what's so annoying. Been with these brokers years and there's only one girl in the office so when I rushed in before taking kids away for half term to collect the paperwork I trusted it would be correct because there were no changes to be made.

You need eyes in the back of your head. As I mentioned a while ago, I moved my car insurance elsewhere when my excess was increased by a whopping 150%. This could easily have been missed, as it appeared on the rear of one of the many pages of my last renewal document.

Caveat emptor!

Also watch out for extensions like driving other cars to be removed. Had to make sure it was added back in when I renewed previously.

I've just been onto Aviva and explained what is wrong with the policies we've ended up with before cancelling under their 14 day rule. Thought they may offer to absorb the increases but they were not interested in keping our business. Just taken out replacement policies with Saga online... at least I can be directly responsible for the data I input.... and you can download all the documents at the quote stage to make sure it's 100% correct.

I've never found Saga competitive for motor insurance. They contact me every year to quote, but the result is always the same. I've used them for other products, though, and they seem pretty good.

You never know who will be good from one year to the next. Last year Saga were about the same as the broker and I couldn't really be bothered to swap. This year they were a little cheaper when I first looked about but again couldn't really be bothered for a few pounds.

When I went online to the Saga website last night I found I could play with the cover and excess etc to end up with an £80 joint saving over Aviva for similar policies.

Saga home insurance saved me a fortune the year before last, my first policy with them.

;-) Saga, they are doomed, doomed, doomed. They must have taken your business as a last gasp before being forced to shut down their discriminatory business:

Ha... as long as they last until Feb 2012 renewal then we'll see what's what.

BTW... The south coast UK based Saga call centre with a very clued up and polite guy was head and shoulders above the heavily scripted Aviva guy from well south of the Isle of Wight.

Agreed. First class service whenever I've called them.

Worth updating that I had 5 letters from Aviva yesterday. One an updated certificate for Mrs F adding the disputed business use for no extra cost. Two identical quotes for my car to include the extra mileage at no cost to me. Finally a letter to each of us confirming the policies were both cancelled and warning that we'd committed an offence in not returning the original certificates which I shredded as the phone guy said I should.

I'd be worried at that level of call centre/admin failure if I had a claim!
