 Pre Wash Recommendations - Skoda
This weather is producing the worst grime i've had to deal with on a car, i'm getting tar spots all over and the grime just clings like it's magnetic. Tar spots i can deal with quickly enough. All over grime though...

I'm after a pre-wash that isn't snow foam and that wont give the wax a hard time, any experience / recommendations?

I use their Tardis stuff on that page for tar spots, its the best i've found. You're only re-waxing a small area afterwards too.

G101's popular, and i understand why, but it's more suited to stripping everything back to start again i think. Maybe a candidate for diluting right down?

If you dilute G101 down to 10%, it still pretty effective as a prewash but protects the wax. Needs to be up around 30-40% before you notice any deterioration in the wax.

Time i gave it a whirl. Cheers for that Stu, much appreciated

I only infrequently wash my car in the winter other than hose off the salty crud on a dry windy day.

The wife's FRV however is black and looks dreadful within a week of being washed (and the kids like to draw on the dirty panels...) so I give it a good soaking with the hose then go over it with Zymol shampoo ( tinyurl.com/zymol-shampoo 6 or 7 quid from Halfords, best to get on a 3 for 2 type deal).

It's one of the few that doesn't have a built in wax/silicone so it'll leave your sealants/wax pretty much intact.

I usually do one panel at a time rinsing my MF mitt after an initial wash (not overlapping where I've gone before) then doing the same panel again more thoroughly after most of the cack has been removed.

Takes 30-35mins to do the car - the Honda black scratches incredibly easily so I tend to be particular with it.

** EDIT ** - not that it means much, but all the Halford customer reviews give it 5 stars - I would too.

VAG paint seems very resistant to scratching, but i don't want to provoke it. If i could just get the worst off without contact i'm happy that a plush mitt will be safe enough for the rest of the job.

Don't know why i'm fretting, my new car arrived in the country this morning. Oh yeah i remember why, because it's WHITE! :-) Still, white hides swirls!

My new car is white too (Shogun) - doesn't look too bad when dirty but always looks good after a wash as long as you don't mind looking like a dealer...

Stick some battenburg on it and he could be a HATO.
