So that's Zed's drive resurfacing delayed then.

maybe they can use it to fill some of the geological sink holes that pose as pot holes round here?

If only it could have happened on the Slough stretch of the M4...would have done us all a favour.

Looking at the lead photo on the BBC article I should think the driver of the car needed clean underwear, the lorry cab is resting on the bonnet almost touching the A pillar.

That's a 450 SLC isn't it? A sad - and sticky - end for it to come to. MB had a golden period of ageless designs in the 70s and 80s; a far cry from the overstyled horrors they churn out today.

Can tarmac be recycled? Can this be scraped up and reused somewhere?

They'd have to be quick, once it goes cold it's not fit for use!

Why not just heat it up again? - just like the sun does in summer and melts the roads.

For some reason unknown to me (probably to do with chemical reactions) that doesn't work.
Think about it, if that were a practical proposition, tarmac could be constantly recycled, which it obviously isn't.
Those lorries on tarmac work have insulated bodies to keep the stuff warm, BTW.

It is now.
A section of the A327 near my office was repaired about a year ago. The machine being used was a big beastie that removed about two inches of the existing road surface, heated it up and then dropped it off a conveyor belt at the back. It was raked out and rolled flat by a bunch of guys walking behind. The results are pretty good.

Cheers Kevin, I thought I had heard of recycling of tarmac now but couldn't find any mention of it!
