The victim in this case is Premiership footballer John Carew.

Would you give £250,000 to some chancer who reckons he's a motor dealer?

That's true, although this guy has no premises and no real bona fides as a car dealer, other than saying: "I am a car dealer."

And a quarter of a mill is a fair bit even for a football player.

Carew is far from the top of the Premiership tree, so he'll be on nothing like the really big stars.

Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and one or two others wouldn't get out of bed for that.

A few of these fellas are on £5m to £6m a year (so I'm told).
