It looks like a Beemer to me, but too old to have front discs?

Once upon a time I'd have been tempted to swing my leg over that.

BMW R60 around 1979 to 80.
|
I said the same to myself, Pug. Before I read replies.
I had an '81 R45, a bit slow..... but a comfy tourer. Twin discs on that one.
Might be tempted by a nice R80 now if one came up for sale. My riding companion has a very nice blue R100 with full set of matching hard luggage and half fairing......sweet. Can't get off the line as quick as me though !

Not an R45 or R65?
|
|
It was a typo - meant to say R80

Thanks. I've always fancied an early one, having (foolishly) rejected a Dragonfly in the '60s.

F senior restored an R60 outfit like this one in the early 80s. I spotted it looking abandoned in a garden, did a deal and we towed it home with mum's Polo (rather too fast he told me in no uncertain terms when we arrived home... wondered why he kept waving!).
It was resprayed, rechromed, wheels rebuilt, new tyres etc... looked a treat.

I remember the odd front suspension... think it was late 50s or early 60s?

Nice bike that - still around ?
|
No... sadly none of his bikes remain. In the 70s he restored a Velocette 250 & 350, Matchless 650 plus ran an immac 1923 Triumph for a while. I learned to ride on the 250 Velocette... rigid rear end and a saddle not a seat.
The Velocette 350 was my favourite.... exactly like this one.... great sound.

...Nice bike that...
Looks to me as if it's about to carry an urgent despatch from the front line back to Field Marshal Rommel.

Closer to the truth than you may think that, especially with post-war BMWs. Current BMWs still bear a strong family resemblance in the engine department despite being amongst the most technically advanced bits of kit on the road. Everyone thought that the boxers would be consigned to the history books in the mid-eighties, proved to be a very durable design.

The model looks like Emma Watson (aka Hermione Granger in the HP films).

Good spot... not only looks like but is...

She clearly forgot to put her trousers on.

Maybe Emma remembers enough magic from the HP movies to keep the SMIDSYs at bay! Preferred the long hair though

Needs a quick respray............................from a Sten.

Nothing foolish about that Tom. They were a long way from being the best bike Douglas ever made.
