A few years ago in a village pub not far from here there was a bunch of very genial and well behaved bikers, Sussex road rats or something of the sort.
Their bikes were great looking, matt black all over, engines included. One was an evil-looking transverse 3 cylinder 2-stroke with little sheep's ear handlebars low down on the steering column.
Used to know a bloke in London who had a Vincent 1000 tourer, a long heavy bike with alloy mudguards, with handlebars like that. How he managed to drive the thing in London with a passenger - me - on the pillion was completely beyond me. In top gear with the engine idling, t'pocket t'pocket t'pocket, it rolled along at about 45 mph.
