Ford Focus II - Breakdown help - sooty123
I am looking for some advice for a relative, the aux belt pulley went last night on the m'way. The cambelt was serviced about 3 weeks ago, would the aux belt have to be disturbed? The breakdown chap said that three of the bolts had come out and the fourth had sheared. Now the garage it went to is really good with a very good reputation in the local area, but he would like to know a few facts before he goes in there. thanks.

The auxiliary drive belt has to be removed to change the timing (cam) belt.

Why should the "breakdown chap" want to go to the garage at which the cambelt was "serviced".

I wondered about the "serviced" bit too. The auxiliary belt should not be disturbed for a timing belt check.

What was actually done to the cam belt?

The cam belt on the Mk2 Focus has a change period of 100,000 miles or ten years, so I assume the car has done the miles as they are not ten years old yet.

He didn't he was told to go there, like I say the garage is good and did the last work on the car. The car is a 1.6 petrol.

The pulley would have to be removed to change the cambelt, on that engine the aux belt runs more or less like a triangle with the aux pulley at the bottom on the crank.

If the 4x bolts were only nipped up and not tightened afterwards i guess that would give the failure they had.
