Now then. I don't want to be seen as a Stu or Rattle - but I could do with a wee bit of advice.
You may remember my Alfa vs LR thoughts. I had decided Alfa, however long term it doesn't seem very sensible - my price range means a belt change (9.5hr book time!), clutch/DMF and expensive suspension work would all be on the horizon.
So, it's a Freelander. Except no. I've been scared off.
Alternative to a Freelander? Howabout an X-Trail? I believe the 2.2DCi can have turbo issues, but if this is the only issue then what's not to like?
Take a looky here - tinyurl.com/26x9jz9 . Apart from being overpriced by about a bag of sand, looks quite tidy to me.
Again, hmmmmmmmm.

A colleague of mine has a 2002 2.0 petrol model. Coming up on 100k. Never broken down or failed to start. Needed nothing other than routine servicing, consumables and tyres.
She is so delighted with it, they plan to replace it with a new X-Trail.

DP - given the OP's handle, I'd reckon he'd be looking for a diesel X Trail. And these have a poor reputation for reliability.
DB - everything you're thinking of has reliability/running cost drawbacks. Get a blooming Alfa and enjoy it. Your seem to have your eyes open, so I reckon it wouldn't disappoint.

Sometimes better the devil you know.
CRV is nice though.

That seems really long. I wonder why it's so complex. Is it an engine out jobs with those figures?

Who knows?! I rang an Alfa dealer to check and they confirmed it's a big do!
Does anyone have an experience of the DCi unit in the X Trail?

Makes the Freelander a realistic proposition after all then!
