I need to hire a van to do a house move. I have basically left it too late to get a man and a van, so it is going to have to be me that does it.
The biggest item I have it a 3 seater sofa.
Would a Ford Transit be big enough for that? The next vehicle up is an LDV Maxus 3.5T, which is definitely big enough, but is probably too big.
|
Even an SWB transit should be fine. They are surprisingly bid inside... :).
|
no problem, I got one in the back of the commer when my son moved in with his mates, that has an 8 foot long load deck the transit must be at least that size and probably bigger.
|
Depends on the size of sofa and model of Transit but most should fit. I certainly carried a whole three piece suite and quite a bit else as well in a Renault Trafic c1986/7
|
That's like how long's a peice of string?
Google Ford's van spec's, and measure the sofa, it's the only sure way.
I wouldn't agree that an LDV will be any bigger than a LWB high top tranny.
Oh Steely what have you done, left yourself doing all that humping.;)
|
I can regularly fit a 3 seater sofa in my work standard Transit van. If memory serves me right the internal size is 8 foot long. (Are these not actually designed to take an 8' x 4' sheet as a minimum????
Problem usually comes if trying to take armchairs at same time, you need to tumble these on top and depending on type of suite, the combined height may be too much!
|
Tie the rear doors together if it pokes out the back.
But like the others, I don't think it will.
|
You never know if you've left it too late for a man and van unless you're moving tonight. When we got our new sofas and the old ones went to our sons house I phoned the number we found for a man and van. He came around 30 minutes later as he'd just finished a job. Okay I only needed him for one trip.
But don't assume someone isn't available - could be a quiet time for someone. And another pair of hands (plus van) will be handy.

Thanks. I will do a final ring around in the morning, to see if I can get somebody. I suppose I should try Shiply again too.

What part of the country are you in? Maybe someone on here has someone they know with a van. Well you never know.
So I take it you're not moving into the accommodation and putting furniture in storage? Or am I mixing up members and threads.

Yeah, worth a try I guess. I am in North London.

Yep, spot on. We had a very big twist in the story today, and so now with are going to have to put everything in storage for a couple of weeks.
|
Does the storage company not provide a pick up service? We went for the closest storage place to us which is SafeStore and it's probably not the cheapest. But they did do free pickup. We had to help load the van mind.
I hope you get sorted with accommodation soon. But reading that other thread I think you were better off not using that landlord. He was evidently not to be trusted and he's now presumably proved itnobody would believe it!

Yeah, I know! :)
I'd write a screenplay about the twists and turn of the last few days that have left me in this situation but, as the saying goes, nobody would believe it!

Nobody would believe some of what has happened in our lives in the last 10 years! As a film it would be to far fetched. And not always funny.

Got a two-seater settee in the back of my Escort Estate and was able to close tailgate. The person who bought my previous suite turned up with a Transit LCX and took three seater and two chairs.
|
When spectating at the RAC rally a few years ago, I saw someone with a Transit van with a sofa bed in the back, ratchet-strapped down, facing backwards, to provide extra seating/sleeping accommodation.
I would say a 3-seater sofa will definitely fit into even the shortest proper Transit van SS.
|
Just before we last moved house getting on for nine years ago I hired a Transit and, with my dad's help, picked up two three-seat sofas (one very heavy due to built in sofa bed), these were nearly new and surplus to a friend's requirement due to them moving into a furnished property.
They both fitted in the Transit fine and were then consolidated with the rest of our belongings before the removals company arrived, I am sure they wondered why things did not fit as well as estimated ...
