Scrapped old and cannot get the new one to go - Falkirk Bairn
Old one lasted many years (scrapped last week) and apart from occasional hiccups provided reliable if a basic service.
The new one promised much, including "shiny windows" but so far has been nothing but trouble and "been off the road" more than it has been "on the road".

I would just give up on it altogether and try and get one that resembles your previous reliable service.
Sometimes there have been cases of trying to reinvent the wheel, trying to fix things that are not broken all in the name of getting as many cliches in as possible.

Yep no point on having say 100,000 members if 98000 post once a year. My biggest fear for this site is once the new one is up and running again the users who are posting now may dissapear. It is why I think this site needs to do something a little different.
The littlle different may wel turn out to be that it works :).

Depends how loyal members feel to the other place. Were you treated like the site valued your contributions and membership? Remember your visits made the owners money simply by you visiting.

Largely, no. I felt as though the people on here (and a few others who haven't made the move) valued my contributions and membership - but did the site? Not really.

I don't know how it is going to turn out. I don't know what things are going to be like a few weeks from now. I may be here. I may be there. I may be in both places. (I suppose I may even be in neither.)
Yes, I do feel a loyalty to the other place. A couple of bad weeks after a few good years is forgiveable. HJ was responsible for setting up a great site, and what was good about the BR owed a lot to him. Yes, my visits made the owners money, but I got it for free, and greatly appreciated it.
Of course, a lot of the loyalty is to the other backroomers, too, and I guess that I'll probably end up going where most of them go.

Quite. About five years ago there was a plea from the powers that were for people to pay an annual sub as the BR was being subsidised by the rest of the forum.
I don't resent earning money for an environment purely by being there - I think that's happening on this page too, or am I imagining the Google ads.
Why should the internet be free?
I hope the owners of C4P make some money too - they deserve to.

Bob, believe me this is not a money making venture. Maybe it will be in future. It was setup by someone (not me) so there was a forum for the old crowd I believe.

I'm sorry, but I find it difficult to believe you don't know who's behind this. Perhaps one day we'll find out who it is?
It feels like I'm in some large building with lots of other people, some of whom I vaguely recognise. We're wandering aimlessly around, gawping at the facilities and tentatively trying them. What happens next? Perhaps the Cybermen enslave us all to their mining planet. ;>)
Hey! It's not a police honey-trap is it? For that, erm, minor indiscretion in '66. I thought the seven quid fine and endorsement covered it.
