You may think I have an unusual bee in my bonnet about this, but I find most fuel guages too small.
To give three examples of good and bad: -
Good - The Mercedes SL has a fuel gauge which is circular and the needle travels about 270 degrees from full to empty. Easy to read and you can probably see it move when accelerating.
Poor - The S-Max with the 'glass cockpit' has a small gauge which travels less than 90 degrees but has little room for anything more.
Very Poor - by contrast I am renting a Hyundai i30 in Israel at the moment. I really like the car but it too has a circular fuel gauge, but its travel is only say 75 degrees. It seems so limited to have such a small range of movement from full to empty when it would be possible to have much more - I think the latest Golf is also a good example.
It wouldn't put me off buying the car, but I just think of the teachers comment 'could do better'.
What do you think?

I think I'm jealous of where you are on holiday. It's horrible here !

25 degrees, bright and sunny - BUT - I am coming home this afternoon [sigh]. Is Manchester Airport open Humph?

Yes it's open. The last remaining place on earth where shell suits and velour leisure clothing items in pastel shades can still be seen in any numbers. Have a good trip !

Thanks
Interesting difference in driving characteristics between a small car with a small petrol engine and automatic and a large automatic TDCi. i30 very quick away from the lights but no ooomph on the motorway to overtake (despite only 22mph per 1000rpm in top). Whereas the S-Max loves overtaking.

This was the primary reason I never got a Squashcow, and got the Altea instead.
The squashy had a stupid pathetic little electronic gauge thing hidden in tunnel deep in the middle of one of the major dials. It was a cause of constant irritation.

Its 9.0c and very wet here. Lot of rain last night.

Thanks - the difference in temperature is now only 16 degrees not 30 degrees it was on Christmas Day when I flew out.

Yes, that feature annoys me too. Clock is pathetically small.

|
Rubbish - cars where the fuel gauge is digital and calibrated by 6-8 square boxes %$¬@&

In the Peugeot, I could drive 100 miles before the fuel gauge started to move. It made me think I was getting something for nothing.

Mondeo was like that Dave. Strangely pleasing.

Most gauges seem to do that, but then when they get to half they drop like a stone.
