Just renewed Espadrilles A-class cover. Original online quotes were about £670. Got a call from Admiral. As we have a second car, they reduced the premium to £450, but I have to insure the S-Max with them for three months from October 2011 at a cost of £250. Given that the S-Max insurance is over £850 annually it seemed a fair deal. Have I been stupid?

I am not interested in the hassle to save £30 but anything over £150 seems worthwhile.

Wow! 670 for an A class? 850 for the S-Max?

Insurance will always be a lot more expensive in areas within big cities. Manchester sadly does have a history of car crime too :(

Insurance is due in the new year on my wife's car. Premium has gone up a bit (£280) but it is only a Seicento. It's almost always in the garage as it's not used that much. I asked how much extra to cover if parked on the street.... and the figure was about £3.75.

We'll still keep it in the garage most of the time when not used but no point not having it covered for parking on the street.

Insurance very high due to postcode. We live in a nice area surrounded by a bunch of scrotes (Blackley, Crumpsall), so car crime is allegedly high. Also, there is a fair amount of insurance scamming in both areas so premiums are loaded to reflect high risk of payout.

Ahem.... as well as that we have had at least three claims between us in 2.5 years, so these premiums are good value for us. The Outback I had was close to £1,000 each year and the XC90 was going to be over £1,200, so these prices are a bonus.

Not everyone in Blackley or Crumpsall is a scrote

I have a very good friend from Blackley, full of tattos and a massive pony tale and a massive rocker. He is a kind gentle soul who wouldn't hurt a fly. He did move out of the area though as it was getting too rough, he lives in the rough part of Salford now and says it is better!.

I think he lived in a council estate though.

Also have a few customers in Crumpsall, it is not really the area I work on but if it is a recomendation I will travel there. Again perfectly normal respectable people.

It is the areas like Monsall and Miles Platting which are basically replcias of Shameless.

I live in Chorlton which is close to Old Trafford and Moss Side as well as nicer areas like Sale and Didsbury but the fact it is close to central Manchester bumps the insurance right up.

When I move out I which will probably be 2011 I am looking into the Stockport area as it is quite a bit cheaper to insure a car there but still close enough to my customer base.
