I likes the Kia Sportage and the Citroen DS3.

Taking the exotica out, there is probably nothing there that I'd like to own sometime over the next 10 years. The DS3 is a nice looking car and I think Kia will do well over the next decade.
5 series and A7 also look good, but could probably do so much more with my money.

The new 520d for me.
The combination of performance, economy and emissions for a car of that size is truly groundbreaking. A friend has just ordered one as his next company car for delivery in March. Can't wait to have a go! :-)

Jag for me of course, but the Citroen looks funky and I've always liked the Suzuki Swift.
|
Jag, Ds3 and the Sportage.
The sportage will be a great buy second hand in three years time.

I like the Sportage as well. Given that three of us on this forum like it, I wonder how many other people in the country do. Looks like they won't have much trouble with demand.

I'm surprised the RR Ghost didn't make it in.
I'd have the 5 series or the DS3 out of that lot.
It's hard to find criticism in the press for the ultra cheap Superb Estate, i'm surprised it didn't make it in. Fabia Vrs too, lot of bang for buck there.
Peugeot's RCZ is a looker, but no mention either :-(
No Guilletta?
No Clio 200, pretty remarkable machine for the money.

I reckon one of the best looking new "affordable" cars in ages. Very, very pretty.

DP - you're right about that 520D but it's a shame we can't have all those attributes in other 2 litre Diesels and somewhat cheaper.
|
A friend has an 'old' Sportage. She goes to feed and groom her horses every day down a little country lane. No trouble at all in our recent 2' of snow, with all weather tyres.
She says the 'new' Sportage is too wide and the roof is now too low. Fashion over function seems to creep in with every model update.

Volvo V60 is an interesting one for me. It's the car I'd have chosen in 2002 if there'd been an estate-lite derivative of the S60 - I didn't need vast capacity, just easier access to a useful-size boot. Sadly, the family's probably outgrown it now, so we may end up in a V70 after all.
That said, and as DP points out, the new 5 demands attention, at least on paper. No 1 Beestlet is adamant that we should try one - but then he wants an XF as well, so who knows?

The C-Max is conspicuous by its absence, I haven't driven a new one though it is apparently dynamically superb, roll on the new Focus.
The 5 Series would probably get my vote from that lot though by virtue of being a superb compromise, probably a 530d, a great combinatioin of efficiency and dynamics.

I have to go along with those who plump for the BMW 5 series.
The heavy (1715 kg) two-litre diesel saloon is capable of an official average of 57.6 mpg, whilst still achieving a 0-60 time of 8.1 seconds. Ten years ago people would have boggled at those figures.
Plus it has a few features that mark it out as being a return to a real-BMW (e.g. Curving dashboard) as well as making progress in achieving a comfortable ride on runflats.
As someone said up-thread though, I am a little surprised that the Skoda Superb didn't make it into the top ten. It's such a terrific all-rounder, especially in estate form.

We've got an RCZ arriving at work early next month for one of our employees. I'll give you an update once I've had a spin. Sis-in-law has a Sportage on order. Ditto!
I also like the new 5 - especially the estate. Might be a contender for me once they are 2 years old, especially as the 520 goes so well, if only it had a spare wheel! I much prefer the look of the new 5 to the new W212 E-class, but at least the E still has a spare.
The new C-Max is 'interesting'. Well received by some for its driving - e.g Autocar - but not for its practicality - e.g. What Car?. But the Grand C-Max looks like its about to give birth or have a dump - I'm not sure which.

I believe a spare is an option - not available on all models of E class....

I would really love to think it handled and rode like traditional hot Peugeot as well. If it drives half as well as it looks though, it will be a cracker.

Not a million miles from the Audi TT, design wise - nice though!

6 series convertible is the years best looker for me.
Preferably the 650i please.

Another vote for the Sportage here. Although I fear that some of the up-specced versions will actually cost more than the larger Sorento, where discounts also seem to be more readily available.
No X1 on the shortlist? Then again, much as I like the X1 does its asking price stack-up against the aforementioned Sportage?
|
Another vote for the Beemer here - not that I'll ever buy one, even second hand the premium over cars like a Mondeo is not worth it in my opinon.
