Does what it says on the tin? - Iffy
www.sprayontyrechain.co.uk/

A spray on tyre chain which the makers say lasts for 'a few miles'.

Makes sense, easy to apply, doesn't have to be removed, no danger of damage to road or tyre.

I wonder if it works?

And I wonder if there's an ordinary household/car product which would do a similar job?

Looks interesting. But "How to use..." section is bit misleading.

In first step, it says use when you are stuck.
Then later steps it says drive your vehicle 2 feet and apply on rest of the tyre.

But if you're stuck already, you can't drive, so you can't apply on the surface of tyre where it already lost grip!

Website is quite amateurish too.

Hmmmn... From 4th January they will be charging the 'New Government VAT Tax Rate of 20%' Therefore increasing the price from £9.99 to £11.99, hope I can get away with the same sort of thinking ;-)

It actually says "FROM 4th OF JANUARY 2011 WE SHALL BE CHARGING THE NEW GOVERNMENT VAT TAX OF 20% AND PRICE WILL INCREASE TO £11.99 PER UNIT"
(Capitals are the result of cutting and pasting, and not of my doing.)

It doesn't say that the whole of the price increase is down to the increase in the VAT tax rate.

Yeah, but it sort of implies that.

Why not just say price will increase to xx in January.

Everyone (who charges standard rate VAT) will be charging the new rate.

In the video he just squirts around the visible bits of the tyre and drives off. Does look quite impressive.

I recall something like this, from the '70s perhaps?

Searching the web doesn't find any rave reviews, but a lot of, meh, type replies. Seems it's not all that effective for anything other than flat ground it wont give enough grip.

I remember it too, I think it was called "liquid tire chain".

It also needs "dry" snow or ice... Not much use where its slush over compacted snow then... where most problems seem to happen...
