Cops, coffee and blocking driveways - SteelSpark
Not wanting to stereotype but I actually was sat in a coffee shop next to a couple of BiBs today.

One of them took a call. As far as I could tell it was about a car blocking a driveway. "Tell them that it is an issue for the council rather than us", was his response.

I suppose they don't get involved until someone pulls a gun...fair enough...although I can imagine these things escalating to a breach of the peace quite easily.

I wonder what kind of legal recourse there is, if somebody blocks your drive.

Oh, and there is certainly no suggestion that I thought they should get involved in a trivial driveway argument, just because they had time to take a quick break.

Round our area, anyone parking alongside dropped kerbs outside shops, pavement corners or similar can find themselves being given a parking ticket.

Perhaps that is what the officers were thinking of at the time?

Thats handy to know, no one will be bothered if i hook a strap to the blocking car and drag it out the way, save me wasting time on a phone call.

You sure they were real BIB and not plastics? Blocking a drive so someone cannot get out is a police matter. Blocking it so someone can't get in isn't.

Best answer to blockers is to have neighbours park bumper to bumper so they can't get out or have move to ram them. Then leave them there for several hours after they want to leave. Stops them doing it.

Yeah, definitely real ones. Not sure whether somebody was blocked in or blocked out.

Parking is no longer anything to do with the Police;obstruction still is.

...Parking is no longer anything to do with the Police...

It is when one of their mates is involved:

Parking has been largely decriminalised and enforcement handed over to civil enforcement officers (CEOs).

But it's worth bearing in mind the police retain all their old powers, they just shunt parking over to the CEOs when it suits them, which is most of the time.
