Nice car, shame about the dealer - Iffy
The CC3 acted up during a run down to the caravan today, just a few days after its 25,000 mile service.

Some odd behaviour from the electrics, culminating in the orange engine management light coming on.

The car was otherwise running normally, but I called into the nearest dealer, Gill, in Bedale, North Yorkshire, who agreed to have a look at it.

Their diagnosis is loose plugs to the fusebox, which would almost certainly have happened when the dealer who carried out the service changed the pollen filter.

Plugs pushed back in and all appears well.

I was charged a very reasonable £35, which for instant service from a franchise dealer is very fair.

First task tomorrow is to write a letter of complaint to the servicing dealer inviting them to reimburse the £35.

I'm not hopeful, they'll probably say the plugs could have dropped out at any time, so it's nothing to do with them.

They will say 'could pay, won't pay' ;-)

Ha-ha.

I'm not sure if I'm proud of that thread title, or regret coining it.

Better to be remembered for something rather than nothing, I suppose.

Depends how much they value your future custom.

if the dealer that did the service argues that the plug could have worked its way lose

could you not get a letter from the dealer that repaired it stating what the problem was (Ie not plugged in properly) as im sure that these days plug connections are mostly clipped in

Ie its either plugged in properly or its not meaning they dont just work free of there own accord

So you want one dealer to accuse the other of poor workmanship. I can just see that happening.

It was probably all that body flex and scuttle shake that loosened them.

Ask ME. Building that is.....................Not loose bits.

The problem is the car's too rigid and well-made.

Flexing of the body shell would absorb road bumps and cushion the fusebox from any vibration.

To be serious for a moment, it may be going over icy and snowy ruts today has shaken the connection loose sooner rather than later.

Fair play to the old bus, it kept going.

It could easily have left me stranded in a snowstorm in Catterick.

If the plug comes loose on its own the car is not fit for purpose!

There are 3 pubs, a club, a Co-op, a petrol station and a cafe in Catterick. You could be stranded in worse places, like Milton Keynes.

I thought it was the job of the suspension to absorb road bumps. And suspension works best when fixed to the most rigid of bodies. Generally most cars with the roof cut off will suffer from body flex, which will compromise the suspension, as well as casuing electrical connections to work loose ...

Would you pay for the letter? If costed properly they ought to charge £20.

Their bill reads:

"Investigated various electrical faults, carried out full IDS checks, found there were no comms with the BCMii.
"Traced fault to plugs not connected to rear of the fuse box following recent service.
"Refitted all plugs, tested vehicle, all OK"

I wouldn't expect them to blame the servicing dealer outright, but the phrase 'following recent service" drops a broad hint.

In 60 years of driving, I have never had a plug " work loose". I had one blow out from a 2CV. The compression ratio must have been low, since I screwed it back in with my fingers, having no tools by me, and the car got me to work. The seating was later reamed out and replaced with an insert, something I never knew could be done.

On the Lada the electrics were always working loose. Fuses would blow each week too.

...update...

Contacted the servicing dealer today and they agreed to pay me the amount it cost to put the car right.

Neither did they make a fuss about doing so.

I think the theory the plugs were not properly refitted after changing the pollen filter rang true with them.

Fair result all round.

Did they refund you the "test" cost ?
Nice car, shame about the dealer - Iffy
...Did they refund you the "test" cost ?...

Yes, the full invoice, which was only £35.

They might not have been so keen if it was a couple of hundred.

So my only 'loss' is the inconvenience of my journey being interrupted, and the hour or so spent at the other dealer having it fixed.

....and a clip around the ear for the mechanic/technician responsible ?

...and a clip around the ear for the mechanic/technician responsible ?...

Funny you should say that, I was assured by the service manager he would look into that side of things because "I don't want to just give you the money and leave it at that".

I was invited to come in to view their internal paperwork on the service, but there's no need.

They've done as much as could be expected.

Good for them. With that sort of attitude they should keep attracting previous customers :-)

The main dealer mechanic that "carried out" the service on one of my cars without touching it was sacked. I think there was also an issue about where the parts for the service went.

Blimey! Did this happen with your current car, ON? Kia, isn't it.? I thought that their dealers were supposed to be among the best!
Nice car, shame about the dealer - Old Navy
No, my Focus, a Ford dealer that no longer exists, I wonder why.

The Cee'd's first service is due in February. The KIA dealer has been great, I went in to buy some coolant for a topup from the parts desk and they called a mechanic and did it immediately FOC.

...update...

Cheque from servicing dealer arrived in the post this morning.

They've sent that out as quickly as could be expected for a big company.

No further problems with the CC3, so fingers crossed I shan't be darkening a dealer's door again for another 12,000miles.

You could counter-sign that and send it off to the 'parking fine' people?

Ha-ha, but no can do, it's marked 'a/c payee only'.

And it's only thirty-five quid - the parking shysters would regard that as an insult.
