I found the £4 per ticket figure interesting. Must say that I don't quite understand why the cameras would be turned off for budgetary reasons, if they really do rake in loads of cash.
Personally, I would be for average speed cameras but not the standard (single measurement cameras) which I personally find too much of a distraction, and pretty pointless for speed control (the old chestnut about speeding between cameras).

In my area there are only mobile camera vans, unmarked vehicles with cameras, along with the occaisional plod with a hand held device. The mobile nature of this enforcement seems to be effective. I have never heard of anyone complaining about being caught just after a school, (a frequent camera site), and they recently caught many local drivers at the site of a well publicised fatal accident.

I've had a great idea which could save money in 2 ways. Councils could switch off the cameras and save that cost AND could not repair the potholes and save that money and then motorists would have to slow down to avoid the potholes and damaged surfaces.

Or swerve all over the road at high speed avoiding them :-)

But they shouldn't be speeding! That is what this is all about.

If "shouldn't" worked there "wouldn't" be a problem. :-)
