Robert Edmiston has been made a peer.

He used to work for Jensen then set up International Motors who imported Subaru, Isuzu & Hyundai over the years.

£6K redundancy allowed him to establish a large business in the Midlands.
£6k to £300 million (say) 50,000 x growth- not bad

A lot more deserved than the spongers, sycophants, boot lickers and Yes-men/women who seem to get a peerage

AFAIK you need to be recommended for it.

You should have asked.... :)

New round of 'working' (ie political) peers appointed today tinyurl.com/35pvsfz

Some of them should be good value. Michael Bishop built British Midland from a third force regional carrier and leasing company to a second flag carrier. Michael Grade & Fiona Shackleton are very wel reputed in their respective areas.

Don't recognise many of the Libs but Oona King, Joan Bakewell and Ruth Lister should add some vim on the labour side as well.

The Lords, albeit non elected, adds far more value to our legislature than its dusty image suggests.
