6 new tyres bought in just under a year and 15,000 miles. Sobering thought! Had to change all 4 originals last year at three years old, and have just changed the rear pair again. That's over 80 quid a month! And to cap it all, the insurance renewal came in the post today too :-(

Do you budget for tyres in your monthly running cost calculations?

Yes. Two Primacy HPs cost £200 and last 25,000 miles, or about two years at my current rate. That's about £8 a month, or about 0.8p a mile.

I'd challenge your calculation, Nick. You need to reckon over 48 months, not 12, which puts your monthly tyre cost at more like £21 than £80.

" 1000 quid gone on tyres! That's over 80 quid a month! "

Something wrong with your arithmetic there.

1000 quid over 4 years = 250 quid a year = 5 quid a week

BTW - is that a NZ quid or a UK quid?

Re read the post he's reffering to what he spent in one year which is almost £80.00 a month.

Yes but he asked about budgeting, which is planning for irregular costs. Spreading the cost over 12 months is only valid if replacing the tyres on a three-year-old car came as a complete surprise.

How can you buget for accidental damage? You can't can you and that big monster will eat tyres quicker than a polo.!! lol...........

Sorry BT, you've lost me. There's nothing in the OP about accidents. But anyway, you budget for contingencies, like major repairs, which might include damaged tyres. I took the OP to be about wear and tear items.

Sorry i was reffering to in general terms you can't plan for accidental damage unrepairable punctures etc.

Using your logic, he needs to budget 334 quid day for tyres (or 666 quid a day if you take the day he changed the four original tyres).

I know that thousands fail basic numeracy and literacy tests, but that is no excuse for budgeting on the above basis.

It depends how you look at things! The car is 4 years old this month and has gone through 6 tyres from new...

I bought it used 2 years ago, so have got through the 6 tyres in the 2 years of my tenure...

My bank account has shelled out for all 6 within the past 12 months, hence a grand in a year..!

165 quid each fyi - or around 330NZD.

Anyone guess what the 4-year 40,000 mile service will set me back in the New Year? Might I get change from 500 quid?

Haha that's just an invitation for doom and gloom!

*sucking through teeth noises*

Hopefully it's not an Inspection II service! You can save a lot DIY. An inspection II at the main dealers for mine is £325. The local BMW indies are around £275. Pukka parts and elbow grease is £130.

EDIT: pukka except for the 3 cabin filters, BMW charge near enough £100 for just them! I went aftermarket for those, still charcoal filters though.
